Time flies.

Tuesday night marked three straight years I’ve had the good fortune of attending Cody Snyder’s Bullbustin’ at the Grey Eagle Resort & Casino on the beautiful Tsuu’tina Nation.

I’ve been waiting weeks for the “unofficial kickoff” to Calgary Stampede and this year featured the best lineup of bullriders yet; the world’s best.

None of course are better than the event’s namesake, other than maybe Yellow Grass’s Aaron Roy whom was interviewed on the big screen just before the event and told the crowd that his son rode his first that same day! (Aaron said he’d have preferred if the kid had chosen the sport of golf).

So popular has Cody Snyder’s Bullbustin’ become, that they had to add an extra day just to accommodate the rush for tickets and corporate suites. And it doesn’t hurt that each night Cody turns over a portion of the proceeds to charity and on Tuesday it was the Special Olympics.

Just before Night 1, I had a minute to chat with Cody and asked if we were going to get rained on. He sure prayed not, but no, the skies closed and a downpour caused an near hour-long delay.

Actually I was okay with that, because I got to spend the time indoors with country star George Canyon. I asked the Flames anthem singer if he planned to sit through the whole delay or go home and he shrugged, “I already got this wet, so I might as well stay and watch some bulls.”

Finally, even though it was still raining, Cody Snyder said, “To heck with it” and they kicked off Bullbustin’ in the rain and everybody had a great time with it all.

That includes a guy I was real happy to see; famed rodeo entertainer Brinson Harris, who stopped along the railing for a selfie.

We were supposed to meet up at his home last winter in Ocala, FL but he was never home for more than two days at a time to make it happen! He’s a lucky guy that in the U.S. Sunbelt, they can rodeo outdoors year-round.

Oh well, there’s always next winter.
