WEDNESDAY COMMENTARY: WHO’S THE SUCKERS?
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)
Oops, I did it again.
That is, forgetting at times to take my own advice.
Shortly before the Holidays I advised our devoted listeners to “block out the noise” and trust your gut.
It really is a good plan, but turns out it’s tough to do without a lot of practice.
And there’s a lot of noise in today’s world that needs to be shut out.
Case in point: the NFL pundits have a platform all day every day where I live. It’s an eternal fountain that you can drink as much from, or as little, as you’d like.
Very similar to hockey pundits in Canada, which we’ll get to.
But long about mid-November, when the Green Bay Packers were languishing in the NFC North standings, all the talking heads agreed star quarterback Aaron Rodgers should be shut down for the year, the heir apparent Jordan Love should get the ball, and Green Bay should start planning for life after Rodgers. They were going to miss the playoffs.
I fell for it.
Well, wouldn’t you know it, #12 has pulled a rabbit out of the hat and now all the Pack needs to do is beat Detroit this weekend to clinch a spot in the playoffs, and the chance to win another Lombardi Trophy.
Will the pundits apologize? Not on your life. Although they might want to send the Packers an invoice for the motivation.
Now the folks in my circle are all complaining that the TSN panel talks too much about Connor Bedard, and the NFL halftime shows are too long.
But we’re all still watching. And we’ll always be watching.
Who really is the suckers?
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary
(The Rod Pedersen Show airs daily on Game+ TV, WQEE Radio and YouTube Live)
You’re not wrong. The problem is squarely on the people who listen to “pundits”. I simply don’t. When the universe was smaller as it pertained to Hockey – for me Kelly Hrudey was the gold standard in Canada. For local Regina stuff then regarding the Pats when it was Al and Jared Dumba. This is a small sample of individuals first having credibility and then being able to communicate effectively. When it came to football if Matt Dunigan says it then I believe it. After that it’s everybody else. Why do people listen to this panel garbage? Simply put it’s… Read more »
If anyone is turning 50 this year be thankful. You can go on Youtube and watch When Metal Ruled the Sunset Strip and view when life was fun and people were legit having a good time. Fast forward to 2023. My favorite “woke” Analyst of the week has to be Dan Orlovsky. Many football fans know him as playing for 35 of the 32 NFL teams; 58% completion rate, and a 15-13 record as a starting QB. LIVE….on air he decides to start praying when that player had the heart attack….. With regards to Pundits they have been around a… Read more »
