Wednesday RP Show Rundown
Here’s the Coles Notes from Wednesday’s Episode #1307 of The RP Show:
- Jersey Jim Biringer joined the show off the top with Moose on vacation and after an Olympics update, we debated NHL Network’s Stanley Cup favourites for this season including the Top 5: Edmonton – Florida – Colorado – Dallas – New Jersey. Jim also detailed what he knew of the Jacob Markstrom-to-New Jersey trade and other NHL-related topics.
- A theme through show was “Who’s on your Mt. Rushmore of broadcasters?” Mine (Rod’s) are USA: Howard Cosell, Vin Scully, Dan Patrick & Bob Costas and Canada: Foster Hewitt, Don Wittman, Brian Williams & Bob Cole.
- The daily poll question was: What’s Canada’s Game of the Week in Week 9 of the CFL? At press time, Lions/Bombers was leading.
- Longtime Edmonton broadcaster Dean Millard joined the show for an Elks/Riders preview. “On paper the Riders should walk all over them!” Millard observed. He also agrees with Edmonton being the #1 favourite at the moment.
- Canada’s foremost NFL expert Jim Laing joined the show for the first two segments in Hour 2. The panel debated the Canadian womens soccer scandal being the biggest of all-time (I contend Ben Johnson was bigger). We then debated a plethora of NFL topics including kickoff changes, Nathan Rourke, Jon Gruden’s bid to get back into the NFL, the Bears sitting all starters for Thursday’s Hall of Fame Game against the Texans and more.
