WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: A BIG HOCKEY DAY PLUS REILLY & COOPERSTOWN!
We welcomed some big hockey names and longtime friends down to Grey Eagle Resort & Casino on Wednesday for Episode #683 of The RP Show! Read on for the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont got it going with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Vancouver Canucks name Patrik Allvin GM, and Tuesday’s NHL results, 2) RP’s NHL Top 5 are 1 – Florida, 2 – Colorado, 3 – Tampa Bay, 4 – NY Rangers, 5 – Nashville while the Bottom 5 are 28 – Vancouver, 29 – Seattle, 30 – Philadelphia, 31 – Arizona and 32 – Montreal, 3) The 2022 Baseball Hall of Fame class includes Big Papi but excludes Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds, 4) Connor Bedard had 4 points in Regina’s 4-0 win over PA, 5) Sean Payton steps down after 16 years as head coach of the New Orleans Saints and 6) Deal or No Deal for the NFL Conference Championships: KC favoured by 7 over Cinci and LA favoured by 3.5 over San Francisco. Moose says to take both deals at BetRegal.ca!
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Should Bonds and Clemens get into Cooperstown? At press time 53% of respondents said yes.
- Rod’s take on Michael Reilly not necessarily having a big enough resume for the Canadian Football Hall of Fame has generated a ton of discussion. The host said, “Can’t we simply talk about it? Sheesh.”
- TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button came down to Grey Eagle for a lengthy hockey chat in Hour 2 for Great Western Original 16 Beer. He discussed Bobby Clarke calling out Ron Hextall for drafting Nolan Patrick in Philadelphia over Cale Makar and said clearly there’s bad blood between the two. RP asked “doesn’t this happen all the time in the drafting world?” to which Button replied if you’re wrong, you’re wrong and have to answer for it. Craig also ripped Buffalo goalie Aaron Dell for his mindless hit on Ottawa’s Drake Bathurson Tuesday night. (Dell wound up getting a 3-game suspension). Regarding the Olympics, Button feels Canada’s roster is good but nowhere near the runaway favourites. He predicts Germany will be in the gold medal final. Craig also dissected the Oilers, Flames and Jets and said Winnipeg’s being forced to take a good long look at its roster. He feels Paul Maurice might’ve been onto something when he stepped down last month.
- Longtime WHL coach and NHL scout Parry Shockey was next up at Grey Eagle and talked all things hockey. He thinks the Flames will go further than the Oilers this spring, but both teams will make the playoffs. He also covered a lot of WHL topics and feels the league will get its full 68-games in plus playoffs.
- Moose rejoined the show for Overtime and the pair told stories of their trip to the Calgary Zoo on Darren’s birthday, and some of the hilarious hijinks which went down.
- See you Thursday at 12 pm ET on Game+ TV, YouTube Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive!
