WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: A BUFFET OF SPORTS TALK! NHL, WHL, CFL, MLB, NFL

They say variety is the spice of life and therefore we had plenty of spice and fun sports talk on Wednesday’s Episode #846 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk – on Game+ TV! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and RP Show Corp C.O.O. Lee Genier kicked things off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Blue Jays smoked the Phillies 18-11 in a spirited game in Philly, 2) Aaron Judge clubs homerun #60 and the Atlanta Braves clinch a playoff spot, 3) Nathan MacKinnon becomes the NHL’s richest player (how does this affect salaries moving forward?), 4) The CFL suspends Calgary linebacker Cam Judge for one game, 5) The Flames sign Adam Ruzicka to a 2-year deal and other NHL notes on the eve of training camps, and 6) A CFL Week 16 primer.
  • Calgary Flames radio analyst Peter Loubardias joined the show for a look across the NHL as teams get set to open training camps. Lou feels the Flames had the best off-season of any club, particularly after it was looking dire at the start of free agency! Regarding this past weekend’s prospects tourney in Penticton, Pete said the best news for Calgary was the play of goalie Dustin Wolf. Peter also said it had to be embarrassing for Blake Wheeler to lose the “C” in Winnipeg, and said the Buffalo Sabres are a team on the rise. Regarding the Florida Panthers, Lou disputed the claim that Matthew Tkachuk is the new face of the franchise, opting for team captain Aleksander Barkov.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which is Canada’s Game of the Week in Week 16 of the CFL – HAM at MTL, TOR at OTT or CGY at BC? At press time, the Stampeders and Lions were leading by a landslide.
  • In Hour 2 we were joined for two lengthy segments by Toronto sportscaster Jim “Clubber” Lang. Jim examined the Blue Jays and said Canada’s ready to explode in Jays Fever in a playoff run. Regarding Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas NOT getting a contract extension, Jim said Dubas has done nothing to warrant a new contract. Jim’s second segment was devoted to the NFL and included a preview of the game of the week – Buffalo at Miami – plus the outlook for the Raiders, Packers and Lions.
  • Winnipeg ICE head coach James Patrick joined the show for an expansive preview of their season. “Jeep” said losing to the Edmonton Oil Kings in the playoffs was a great learning opportunity for his club, and compared it to past playoff losses of the NHL’s Lightning and Avalanche. Patrick also said they’ve got more players away at NHL camps than they’ve ever had, but agreed the team’s best player could be 17-year old forward Zach Benson. James also explained that arena renovations have his team on the road forever to start the season, and discussed the influence Terry Simpson had on his playing and coaching career.
  • Tuesday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Tori Gurley. Wednesday’s was James Patrick!
