We welcomed a Canadian sporting hero down to Grey Eagle Resort & Casino on Wednesday and had a whole lotta fun on Episode #707 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk! Read on for the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont got it going with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Tuesday NHL one-timers, 2) Rod’s NHL Top 5 teams are Colorado, Carolina, Calgary, Tampa Bay & Florida, 3) The Bottom 5 are Seattle, Philadelphia, Buffalo, Montreal and Arizona, 4) The Raptors sweep a back-to-back with the Nets, 5) MLB cancels the first two series of the regular season due to the work stoppage, and 6) WHL/OHL/QMJHL goings-on plus the COC names the flag-bearers for the Paralympics in Beijing!
  • 2-time Olympic gold medallist and 1-time bronze medallist Catriona Lemay Doan – originally of Saskatoon – joined us at Grey Eagle for a great Olympics chat. Catriona is one of the most decorated Canadian athletes ever, is a member of the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame and is an officer with the Order of Canada. She also served as Canada’s Chef de Mission for the 2022 Beijing Games and she told plenty of inside stories regarding the recent Games. She was excited to be able to spend time with her cousin Shane Doan, who served as GM of Canada’s mens hockey team. She reflected on her own career, the increase in sponsorship for Canada’s athletes, and said it’s about time the world got tough on Russia for its scandals and crimes. She said the sporting community has been behind the rest of the world in sanctioning Russia. They were very strongly-worded comments!
  • L.A. Clippers forward Xavier Moon – a 3-time winner of the CEBL MVP award – joined the show from Southern California to talk about his days with the Edmonton Stingers, the upcoming BCLA tournament in Calgary March 16-18, and his road from Goodwater, AL to Canada to the NBA. Moon’s currently playing with the NBA G-League’s Agua Caliente Clippers and has been up and down with the big club, making his NBA debut on Boxing Day. He joked that during his days with the Stingers, he was referred to as “Edmonton’s second-most popular Moon”.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who is Canada’s best hope to win the Stanley Cup this spring – Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto or Winnipeg? At press time, the Flames were leading.
  • Tuesday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Winnipeg ICE forward Zach Benson. Wednesday’s winner was Catriona Lemay Doan. (Pronounced CAT-Tree-Awn-Ah)
