We ushered four great sports guests through Wednesday’s Episode #737 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk – at Grey Eagle Resort & Casino. Read on for the rundown!:

  • RP was joined by Kevin Smith, Communications Manager for Alberta Golf and longtime Global TV Calgary sportscaster, for the Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) A recap of Tuesday’s Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby Tarp Auction where $2.1-million was raised, 2) Tuesday NHL leftovers, 3) The Blue Jays fall 4-0 at the Yankees, 4) Inside the NBA Playoffs, 5) Junior hockey happenings and Winnipeg hockey postponements, and 6) PGA Championship, Masters and Saudi Tour golf talk.
  • It’s unbelievable how popular golf talk has been on the RP Show and Kevin Smith – who’s covered multiple Masters tournaments – talked about the exclusion of Phil Mickelson (he feels he’ll be back at some point), the rebirth of Tiger Woods, and the explosion of golf’s popularity during the pandemic. Also as a long-time Flames reporter, Kevin discussed the playoff races and the potential of a Flames/Oilers second round series.
  • Saskatoon Blades goaltender Nolan Maier joined the show to discuss becoming the WHL career wins leader by a goalie, and how he felt the celebrations were a little “over the top”. Rod advised that he doesn’t realize yet how big of a deal it is! The Yorkton product discussed his WHL career and gave an outlook for the Blades heading into the WHL Playoffs.

  • In Hour 2 we were joined by popular Stampeders podcaster and 3DownNation columnist Ryan Ballantine for an expansive chat about the CFL, spring football and a 2022 outlook. Ryan stayed for 40 minutes and we covered it all, with several questions and comments from the viewers.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: With spring football starting this weekend, what will you be watching – USFL, Fan Controlled Football League, Both or Neither? At press time, “Neither” was leading with over 70% of the vote.
  • Saskatchewan Rush forward Ryan Keenan joined the show to discuss last week’s huge 15-13 win over Vancouver and preview Saturday’s massive showdown with the Colorado Mammoth at SaskTel Centre. Keenan – the son of Rush GM Derek Keenan – admitted his team felt a little guilty after the firing of head coach Jeff McComb and that may have led to a more-spirited showing. Ryan said the Rush are in “playoff mode” now and have been for awhile. He also joked that while he’s been spending lots of time in Southern California, he doesn’t plan to ask for a trade to the area. The Rush is his home.
