WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: HUSKA, HEBERT & CFLPA!
We had a big crowd turn out to Century Downs Racetrack & Casino to enjoy our big name guests on Wednesday’s Episode #1,061 of The RP Show – Daytime Sportstalk – on Game+TV, WQEE Radio, Podcast & YouTube Live! Here’s the rundown:
- RP and Kevin The Medium kicked things off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Blue Jays beat the Phillies 2-1 amid Jordan Romano’s triumphant return, 2) Inter-Miami of MLS is undefeated since the arrival of Lionel Messi and he’s scored nine goals in six games!, 3) CFL Week 11 preview – Edmonton at Hamilton (-5.5), Winnipeg (-7) at Calgary, Montreal (-2.5) at Ottawa and BC (-9.5) at Saskatchewan, 4) England will face Spain in the Womens World Cup Final, 5) Details on the Jeff Petry trade, and 6) Randoms.
- New Calgary Flames head coach Ryan Huska joined us at Century Downs for a 40-minute chat. He and Rod’s association go back to the WHL & Hockey Canada days and they swapped stories including Ryan growing up in the Kootenay’s. Huska discussed how things will change in the Flames locker room, said they’ll be naming a captain prior to the season, and answered plenty of questions from the viewers.
- The daily Key Auto Group poll question was: Which is Canada’s Game of the Week in the CFL? At press time the Lions & Riders were leading.
- 4-time Brier champion and Olympic gold medallist Ben Hebert joined the show in Hour 2 for a very wide-ranging interview. The chat was interrupted by a phone call from Hebert’s good friend Bo Levi Mitchell! Ben discussed his old baseball team, the North Regina Little League All Stars, representing Canada at the Little League World Series, discussed plenty of the CFL, and previewed the curling season.
- In our weekly CFLPA spotlight for Sober Carpenter non-alcoholic craft beer, we were joined by Toronto Argonauts defensive lineman Folarin Orimolade. The former L.A. Ram and Calgary Stampeder discussed his road to the CFL, why he signed with the Argos in free agency, what’s special about the 7-1 Argos and what type of teammate is QB Chad Kelly?
