WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: MARINO, BLUE JAYS, WILD & MORE!
Wednesday was a huge news day across sports and we offered on-the-spot analysis with Episode #836 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk – on Game+ TV! Here’s the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont got things going with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Blue Jays fall 9-6 at Baltimore in a heated game (Rod feels the playoffs have already started in MLB), 2) The Braves win 10-9 at Oakland and have caught the Mets for the NL East lead, 3) The Saskatchewan Roughriders release controversial D-lineman Garrett Marino. Plenty of time was spent on this point and the hosts feel he’s run out of chances, 4) We examined the Week 13 CFL games. Vernon Adams has to start for BC at Montreal doesn’t he?, 5) Who is Canada’s best hope to end the Stanley Cup drought? Rod thinks it’s Edmonton while Moose opted for Toronto, and 6) It’s NFL Kickoff Eve and we previewed the Bills at Rams on Thursday night. Is it a Super Bowl preview?
- There was breaking news with the Montreal Canadiens signing Kirby Dach to a new deal and the same with the Ottawa Senators and Tim Stutzle. The guys also debated Connor Bedard’s performance in Tuesday night’s Regina Pats intrasquad game.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which is Canada’s Game of the Week in Week 13 of the CFL season? BC at Montreal, Toronto at Ottawa, Sask at Winnipeg or Calgary at Edmonton? At press time, the Banjo Bowl was leading with over 80% of the vote.
- In our continuing series of previews of NHL teams, we welcomed NHL.com Minnesota Wild writer and Bardown Beauties podcast host Jessi Pierce. Jessi covered all aspects of the Wild’s off-season including the re-signing of goalie Marc-Andre Fleury and former Regina Pats star Sam Steel. She feels the Wild over-achieved last season and agreed with Rod’s prediction that they’ll finish 2nd in the Central Division this year behind Colorado. Pierce also discussed the controversial Kirll Kaprizov/Russia story and she reported the Wild star is in Minnesota and ready to open training camp with the team.
- Former Blue Jays first base coach and current minor league prospect coach Tim Leiper joined the show to discuss the Blue Jays stretch run. He feels expectations are justifiably high for the Blue Jays but says there are still some glaring holes in the team’s game. Leiper – who was on the Jays staff when they won the 2015 and 2016 AL East pennants – agreed that the playoffs have already started and said Jays skipper John Schneider should manage that way. Tim explained that Schneider’s been with this team through the entire rebuild and knows the roster, and its capabilities, inside out.
- Tuesday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Hustler Paterson. Wednesday’s was Coach Leiper!
- If you missed the show you can catch the replay at 10 pm PT/11 pm MT on Game+ TV, on our YouTube channel or 7-9 pm ET on WQEE in Metro Atlanta.
