WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: NHL, CFL, CEBL PLUS THE RETURN OF ABOU
Summer is officially upon us! Hockey season is over and we looked ahead on Wednesday’s Episode #1,019 of The RP Show live from Ace Casino Airport & Hotel Clique Calgary Airport on Game+ TV, WQEE, Podcast & YouTube Live. Here’s the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont kicked things off with the Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Vegas Golden Knights beat Florida 9-3 in Game 5 to capture the Stanley Cup. Did anybody really think they’d do it by Year 6? (The hosts did not), 2) Jonathan Marchessault won the Conn Smythe. Was there really anyone else?, 3) The Blue Jays got rocked 11-6 at Baltimore, 4) The CFL is using analytics to name their Player of the Week and Rod’s appalled!, 5) Oakland A’s stadium talk, and 6) There are CEBL games in Calgary and Edmonton Wednesday night with Vancouver and Saskatchewan as the visitors, respectively.
- 10-year CFL veteran and Grey Cup champion Mike Abou-Mechrek stopped by Ace Casino to discuss all the above. He doesn’t have a problem with analytics being used to name the CFL P.O.W. because the old method (a selection committee) wasn’t accurate anyway! Regarding “the playcall” that left Rider QB Trevor Harris injured in Week 1 at Edmonton, Abou got heated and called out Rider leadership. The guys looked back at Week 1 in the CFL and previewed Week 2.
- The daily Key Auto Group poll question was: Which is Canada’s Game of the Week in the CFL – CGY/OTT, WPG/SK, EDM/BC or HAM/TOR? At press time, Bombers-Riders was leading.
- CEBL insider Seth Anderson joined the show at Ace Casino to discuss the opening weeks of the 2023 season and explain why the league is setting attendance records in Year 5. Seth examined the league’s star players and popularity in its 10 Canadian markets.
- Tuesday’s Rockstar of the Day was Ryan Rishaug. Wednesday’s was Abou!

Looking like Saskatchewan Roughriders Trevor Harris out 4 the game against the Blue Bombers. Mike Abou-Mechrek is spot on to call out an inept Roughriders team management. Some heads should roll right out the door to the unemployment line. Enough of Craig Dickenson and his made up excuses.

The CEBL is something. The Rattlers lost but that is a wall to wall party to the last second. – increase talent level and what a game presentation.
Take notes hockey/football people….these guys are promoting Canadiana and going all out.
Edmonton is a great town.
