WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: RICHARDS, MADANI AND MORE

It was a hump day Episode #759 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk – on Game+ TV. Please enjoy the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked things off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) It’s George Strait’s 70th birthday. Rod recalled meeting the King of Country at Craven in 2010, 2) Tuesday NHL leftovers and stories from a night with the Lightning and Panthers in Sunrise, FL, 3) Don Cherry says on a podcast he and Ron MacLean will never be friends again, 4) The Battle of Alberta Game 1 highlights Wednesday’s NHL Playoff schedule, 5) The Leafs announce everybody in management and coaching will be back for another season, 6A) The Blue Jays blank the Mariners 3-0 and go for a series sweep on Wednesday, and 6B) Junior hockey recap.
  • Iconic broadcaster Mike Richards of Saugga 960 Radio joined the show to preview the Oilers/Flames series, adorned in a Flames jersey. The longtime Calgary sportscaster gives the nod to the Flames, and credits Darryl Sutter. Mike launched into old time Steve Armitage impressions, Edmonton cutdowns, and winced that he’s not in Calgary for the series.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who should win the Lady Byng Trophy as the NHL’s Most Sportsmanlike Player – Kyle Connor, Jaccob Slavin or Jared Spurgeon? At press time, Connor was leading.
  • In Hour 2 we were joined by Sportsnet’s Arash Madani who explained the Blue Jays have gotten back on track after a dreadful road trip. Arash said there have been many holes in the Blue Jays’ game lately but feels it’s very early, and that they’ll get back on track. He admitted he didn’t see the New York Yankees being so good out of the gate, nor slugger Aaron Judge. Regarding the Leafs non-moves, Madani said it’s the definition of insanity. He paralleled the Raptors situation where they fired a coach and traded a franchise star which led to an NBA championship in 2019. Regarding the CFL strike, Arash wonders if this is how the owners treat “partners” then how would they treat their enemies?
  • Tuesday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Dave Randorf. Wednesday’s was Mike Richards!
  • NEW: If you missed the show you can catch the replay at 10 pm PT/11 pm MT on Game+ TV, watch on our YouTube Channel or listen to the podcast wherever you enjoy your podcasts.
  • See you at 12 pm ET on Thursday on Game+ TV, YouTube Live or listen 24/7 at RodPedersen.com/ListenLive!

I did not expect Ron MacLean to walk the plank with Don Cherry. He has bills to pay like everyone else. I will say this. When Michael Strahan left that morning show. Kelly Ripa took a day off to reset and contemplate. She wasn’t going to leave either. What Don Cherry found out at 89 is exactly what everyone in this world needs to learn. When the tide is high, good… Read more »
