WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: SPORTS TALK WITH JOCK

We had big breaking NHL news on Wednesday’s show, previewed Week 3 in the CFL and a whole lot more on Episode #784 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk – on Game+ TV! Here’s the rundown:

• RP and Moose Dupont got it going with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Auston Matthews wins the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP, 2) Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final goes Wednesday night in Tampa Bay, 3) Shawinigan beat Edmonton 4-3 at the Memorial Cup (what’s with the WHL drought?), 4) The White Sox outlast the Blue Jays 7-6, 5) CFL Week 3 preview and Deal or No Deal with Bet Regal’s betting lines, 6A) Gronk retires and 6B) Is the PGA in trouble?
• News broke Wednesday morning that the Florida Panthers are signing Paul Maurice to a 3-year deal as head coach. Rod’s been close to the Panthers’ scene all year and detailed what the hiring means, and why interim coach Andrew Brunette didn’t get the job.
• Sports Talk Winnipeg’s Hustler Paterson joined the show to discuss the Maurice hiring. He feels “PoMo” should be proud of his nine seasons with the Jets and it’s true; it was simply time for a change. Hustler also wasn’t sure what’s taking so long for Barry Trotz to takeover as head coach of the Jets!
• Legendary Calgary sportscaster Jock Wilson joined the show for a vast CFL and NHL discussion. He and Rod agreed that those are still the top two topics on the Western Canadian sports scene. Jock hosted Flames pre- and postgame shows for years and discussed his acrimonious relationship with the Sutter clan. Now he’s the pre- and postgame host for the Stampeders and the guys went over all the latest CFL news.
• The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Which is Canada’s Game of the Week in Week 3 o the CFL? At press time, the Ticats/Blue Bombers was leading.
• Tuesday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was NHL.com’s Julie Stewart-Binks. Wednesday’s was Jock Wilson!
