WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: SUMMER SPORTS!
There’s a ton going on in the sports world these days and we covered it ALL on Wednesday’s Episode #1,047 of The RP Show – Daytime Sportstalk – on Game+TV, WQEE Radio, YouTube Live and Podcast! Here’s the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont got things going with these Quick Six show topics: 1) Early Wednesday morning Canada beat Ireland 2-1 at the Womens World Cup and Tuesday evening Lionel Messi scored twice in Inter-Miami’s 4-0 win over Atlanta United, 2) The Dodgers outlasted the Blue Jays 8-7 in 11 innings setting up a rubber match Wednesday, 3) Who will replace Patrice Bergeron with the Boston Bruins?, 4) What’s Rocky Wirtz’s legacy as owner of the Chicago Blackhawks?, 5) CFL betting lines for Week 8 from Bet Regal – Hamilton at Ottawa (-3.5), Sask vs Toronto (-10.5) in Touchdown Atlantic, BC (-8.5) at Edmonton and Calgary at Montreal (-2.5), and 6) The L.A. Chargers have made Justin Herbert the highest-paid AAV NFL QB plus USA Today’s NFL win projections for 2023.
- Bet Regal NHL Ambassador Bernie Nicholls joined the show from Toronto to discuss the latest in the NHL. The NHL great feels if Toronto eventually has to pick between Marner or Matthews, it should be Matthews all the way. He feels he could go down as the greatest Maple Leaf ever, and the team should pay him what he wants. Nicholls also feels Leafs goalie Ilya Samsonov earned the 1-year, $3.55M salary from the arbitrator. Regarding the Boston Bruins, Bernie feels they may be facing a rebuild.
- Calgary Stampeders and Nevada Wolfpack alum John Bender joined us at Century Downs Racetrack & Casino for a 40-minute chat which covered the CFL, NFL and NCAA. Also, his favourite Tim Hortons donut is the Boston Creme!
- And finally in our weekly CFLPA player spotlight, we were joined by Winnipeg Blue Bombers star defensive end Willie Jefferson for a wide-ranging chat. Willie explained what his family’s been up to on the bye week (including visiting the Winnipeg Zoo), what motivates him at this stage of his career, and much more.
- The daily Key Auto Group poll question was: What’s Canada’s Game of the Week in Week 8 of the CFL? At press time, Touchdown Atlantic was leading.
- Tuesday’s Rockstar or the Day was Brandon London. Wednesday’s was Willie!
