WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: THEO BRINGS THE FIRE!

The parade of big name guests at Grey Eagle Resort & Casino in Calgary continued on Episode #712 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk – on Wednesday! Here’s the rundown:

  • With Moose gone to Phoenix for the week, RP got the show rolling with a special guest appearance by NHL great Theoren Fleury. The pride of Oxbow, SK – and veteran of 1,084 NHL games and 1,088 points – stayed for a 40-minute visit and covered everything under the sun. Regarding Alex Ovechkin being booed in the Saddledome Tuesday night, Theo offered, “What does Ovie have to do with this?” (referring to the Russian invasion of the Ukraine). The first segment was filled with Theo discussing the devastating effect Covid has had on the globe and what it’ll take for us to recover. In the second segment, Fleury talked about his rookie goals record being in jeopardy with the Warriors, the golden age of the NHL in the 1980s and how honoured he was to skate with the likes of Gretzky, Yzerman, Sakic, etc. It turned into a good old hockey chat. He also said the Leafs, Oilers and Flames have accomplished nothing until they actually win something. Theo said he’s very proud of being a winner in the NHL, Olympics, World Cup and World Juniors.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who won the Russell Wilson trade – Denver or Seattle? At press time, the Broncos were leading by a slim margin.
  • In Hour 2 we were joined by The Athletic-Seattle writer and podcaster Michael-Shawn Dugar from the Emerald City. The reporter went deep into the Russell Wilson trade, admitting that the painful rebuild for the Seahawks has begun. Dugar said reaction to the trade in Seattle has been mixed depending on who you talk to, and discussed how the Wilson relationship broke down in Seattle over the past year.
  • Next up we were joined by Dr. David Legg, Past President of the Canadian Paralympic Committee and current professor at Mount Royal University. Legg discussed staging world sporting events in the Covid environment and amid global unrest. He also talked about the importance of the Paralympics, and how USPORTS has come back post-Covid.
  • Tuesday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Lanny McDonald. Wednesday’s was Theoren Fleury.
