WEDNESDAY RUNDOWN: VANSTONE, BENTON AND MORE

We kept the train rolling with the hottest sports talk on Wednesday’s Episode #903 of The RP Show – Canada’s Daytime Sports Talkshow – on Game+ TV, YouTube Live and WQEE Radio! Here’s the rundown:

• RP and Moose Dupont kicked it all off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Wednesday NHL leftovers including Florida blanking the Blue Jackets and the Leafs destroying the Ducks, 2) Ovi hits 800 goals. The Gretzky chase is electric!, 3) Rod’s NHL Top Five are BOS – TOR – VGK – NJD – PIT, 4) The Bottom 5 are SJ – PHI – CBJ – CHI – ANA, 5) The BC Lions extend the contracts of Co-GMs Rick Campbell and Neil McEvoy, and 6) Randoms including WHL play, NFL news and Wednesday night’s NHL games.
• Seattle Kraken broadcaster Mike Benton joined the show to discuss the team’s eastern road swing and Tuesday’s 6-2 loss at Tampa Bay. Benton explained how the club has maintained its second-place standing in the Pacific Division and how the club has created such a great team culture, as exemplified by the play of Jordan Eberle and his young teammates. Regarding the Kraken being so far ahead of the rival Vancouver Canucks, Mike said his team isn’t celebrating anything yet and said there’s still plenty of hockey to be played.
• RP Show hockey analyst Sarina Taylor joined the show to discuss the NHL and preview the World Juniors tournament in the Maritimes.
• Award-winning Leader Post columnist Rob Vanstone joined the show to gushed over the quality of play in the NHL this season. He credits the skill and speed of the young NHL stars. Regarding his beloved Winnipeg Jets, R.V. said this is the team he hoped they’d be last year. On the topic of the Roughriders, Vanstone applauded the hiring of Kelly Jeffrey as Offensive Coordinator and said he’s earned the position, but is concerned about the talent he’ll have at his disposal.
• It was Day 12 of our NHL Reverse Retro Jersey Bracket. The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Whose Reverse Retro jersey is better – Columbus or Washington? At press time the Capitals were leading with over 70% of the vote.
