Wednesday Sports: Another Jays Loss
MLB
- Ceddanne Rafaela had three hits, including a tie-breaking single in the eighth inning, and the visiting Boston Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-3 on Tuesday. Tyler O’Neill of Burnaby, B-C, homered and scored twice, and Rafael Devers had two hits, and the Red Sox won for the seventh time in nine games. The teams finish their three-game series on Wednesday night.
- Willie Mays, baseball’s exuberant and electrifying ‘Say Hey Kid,’ has died at 93. The Giants and Mays’ family jointly announced his death yesterday. The Giants’ centre-fielder, with his signature basket catch, was one of the game’s greatest and most beloved players. He hit more than 600 home runs, totalled more than 3,000 hits and had been baseball’s oldest living Hall of Famer.

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Lions have signed all-United Football League kicker Jake Bates, who made three field goals from at least 60 yards for the Michigan Panthers this past season. Detroit announced the move Tuesday, adding depth at a position with veteran Michael Badgley. Undrafted rookie James Turner was released. Turner kicked for Michigan’s national championship team last season after transferring from Louisville.
