CEBL

The Edmonton Stingers claimed the first win of the CEBL season as they beat the Calgary Surge 97-79 in wire-to-wire fashion on Tuesday night. The game set a new League attendance record of 12, 327 in the Saddledome. Edmonton starting guard Davion Warren led the way with a game-high 17 points in his CEBL debut, but it was Edmonton’s bench that ended up doing most of the damage. Adika Peter-McNeily and Ben Krikke scored 15 a piece while Michael Nuga added 14 as the Stingers second unit finished a plus-17.

Action continues Wednesday night as Winnipeg visits Saskatchewan (7 pm MT, SaskTel Centre). The game can be seen live on Game+ TV.

MLB

Impatient fans at Rogers Centre booed the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday as they dropped a 5-0 decision to the lowly Chicago White Sox. Chicago starter Garrett Crochet and three relievers combined on a two-hit shutout as the visitors, last in the A-L Central with a 15-and-34 record, snapped their four-game losing skid. Crochet retired the first 13 batters he faced and allowed just two hits and one walk over his six-inning appearance.

NBA

Jayson Tatum scored 36 points, including 10 in overtime after Jaylen Brown’s tying 3-pointer with 6.1 seconds remaining in regulation, and the Boston Celtics rallied just in time for a 133-128 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday in Game 1 of the NBA’s Eastern Conference finals. Jrue Holiday added a season-high 28 points and Brown finished with 26. Game 2 is Thursday in Boston. Tyrese Haliburton had 25 points and 10 assists for the Pacers.

NHL

  • The Nashville Predators have traded Ryan McDonagh back to Tampa Bay less than two years after acquiring the veteran defenseman. The teams announced the trade Tuesday. The Predators also are sending the Lightning a fourth-round pick in the NHL draft in June. Nashville traded for the two-time Stanley Cup champion in July 2023, helping Tampa Bay clear much-needed cap space. Nashville now clears space trading McDonagh and his $6.75 cap hit back. The Predators received Tampa Bay’s second-round selection in 2025 and seventh-round pick in June.
  • The first two rounds of the Stanley Cup playoffs have been the most-watched in U.S. history. Going into the conference finals, the playoffs are averaging 1.16 million viewers across ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, TBS and truTV. That is a 9% increase over last year. The conference semifinals, where all four series went at least six games, averaged 1.55 million, a 12% jump. The Florida Panthers’ 2-1 victory over the Boston Bruins in Game 6 on May 17, averaged 2.2 million on TNT, truTV and Max

PWHL

Visiting Minnesota got first-period goals from Michela Cava and Sophie Jacques and defeated Boston 3-0 to tie the best-of-five Professional Women’s Hockey League championship series at a game apiece. Jaques added an empty-net goal late in the third period to seal the deal. Nicole Hensley made 20 saves to record her first post-season shutout. Game 3 in the Walter Cup Final is Friday in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

CFL

The Edmonton Elks selected Antonio Alfano, a defensive tackle from Lackawana College, in the CFL supplemental draft Tuesday.

Alfano was the only player selected. By taking Alfano, the Elks forfeited their eighth-round pick in the 2025 CFL draft.

The supplemental draft is for players who weren’t declared as Canadians in time for the CFL draft, which this year was held April 30. Edmonton opened the ’24 draft by taking Cincinnati linebacker Joel Dublanko with the No. 1 selection.

The six-foot-four, 285-pound Alfano is from New Jersey but qualified as a national player because his mother is from Toronto. He had 14 tackles (eight for loss), four sacks and a forced fumble in five games at Lackawana College last year.

12,000+ fans for a basketball game in Calgary? If I’m a CFL Owner or Board of Govenor I’m holding an emergency meeting this afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Get Ambrosies’ 60+ year old a$$ in a chair and ask point blank; “Why is Mike Morreale running laps around you? Why is this CEBL soaking up all the young people? Why is it with the CFL it’s one thing after another for crappy optics, poor technology, and a TV Production that looks like Cable Regina 1990s Channel 7 TV?” I’ll say it again. The CFL survives in spite of itself and for… Read more »
