The Golden Knights delivered their city a true Vegas-style party from dazzling passes to a Mark Stone hat trick to all-out goal celebrations. The Knights captured the six-year-old organization’s first Stanley Cup on Tuesday night with a 9-3 romp over the beaten up and exhausted Florida Panthers. Vegas, which won the best-of-seven final in five games, blew open a one-goal game on Tuesday in the second period to grab a 6-1 lead after 40 minutes.

Jonathan Marchessault was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP for leading the Vegas Golden Knights to the Stanley Cup. Marchessault led the champions with 13 goals and was second with 25 points during their playoff run. Marchessault is one of six original Knights players left from the start of the expansion franchise in 2017.

Riley Sutter’s goal at 13:34 of overtime lifted the Hershey Bears to a 5-4 victory over the visiting Coachella Valley Firebirds on Tuesday and turned the Calder Cup Final into a real series. The Bears, who lost 5-0 and 4-0 in Coachella Valley, California, to open the best-of-seven American Hockey League championship series, responded at home with more grit and goals. Game 4 is Thursday in Hersey, Pennsylvania.

Baltimore rookie Gunnar Henderson hit his first career grand slam to power the Orioles to an 11-6 victory over the visiting Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday. The Orioles banged out a season-high 17 hits and won their fifth straight. Jays’ starter Chris Bassitt allowed eight runs and 11 hits in three innings as the Blue Jays fell to 0-and-4 against Baltimore this season. The teams will play again Wednesday.

Jahvon Henry-Blair’s 26 points led the Niagara River Lions (3-4) to a 100-93 win over the Montréal Alliance (2-5) in Tuesday night CEBL action. Henry-Blair’s scoring performance was punctuated by an impressive shooting night from beyond the arch. He shot 66 per cent from distance and made eight triples, tying the record (with three others) for second-most threes made in a single CEBL game.

Clay Holmes pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth inning and the New York Yankees stormed back from four runs down against Max Scherzer to beat the New York Mets 7-6 in their wild Subway Series opener Tuesday. Drew Smith became the second Mets pitcher to get ejected this season for using an illegal foreign substance. The reliever never even threw a pitch at Citi Field. He was checked by umpires as he entered the game in the seventh inning and moments later he was ejected by crew chief Bill Miller.

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan is recovering from a medical situation. The Tour did not offer details of the situation or how serious it was. The Tour said Tuesday that two of Monahan’s top executives will be leading the day-to-day operations while the 53-year-old recovers. It caps a tumultuous week for Monahan. Last Tuesday he stunned the golf world and his players by announcing a deal with Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund for a business partnership. The wealth fund is what pays for LIV Golf, the rival the PGA Tour.
