WEEK 2 CFL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
TORONTO (CP) – Argonauts quarterback Ricky Ray is the CFL offensive player of the week after leading Toronto to a win in its home opener.
Argos slotback Andre Durie earned Canadian of the week honours, while Montreal defensive end John Bowman took defensive honours and Winnipeg kick returner Demond Washington took the special team award.
Ray threw for 407 yards, on 29-of-37 passing with three touchdown passes and zero interceptions in Toronto’s 48-15 home-opening win over reigning Grey Cup champion Saskatchewan on Saturday.
Ray threw touchdown passes to Jason Barnes (14 yards), Chad Owens (14 yards) and Mike Bradwell (five yards). He also rushed for 34 yards on four carries, which is the most he has rushed for in a game since week 14 in 2011.
Durie caught five of Ray’s passes for 77 yards and rushed for another 18 yards in the win. The victory was costly however, as Durie suffered a broken clavicle and is expected to be out six weeks.
Bowman recorded five tackles, including four sacks, as Montreal defeated the B.C. Lions 24-9.
Washington returned a Brett Maher kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown to help the Blue Bombers pull off a 38-28 comeback victory against the Ottawa Redblacks in Winnipeg.
What ? No Roughriders !
TSN #1 player CFL = Ricky Ray for a reason
Anon #2 … What about the previous week? Why didn't the Ricky Ray groupies come out of the woodwork then? I'll tell you why… It's because Ricky is just as inconcistant as any other QB. Yes he can light it up when everybody is on. So can Darian Durant light it up when everybody is on. They are both great QB's playing in a league that has its ebbs and flows. Had Ricky played a full season last year. There is no way his ratings would have stayed that high.
I'll tell you why, it was only week one of the season. Ricky Ray Is the uundisputed #1 QB of the Canadian Football League bar none. Darian Durant not even In the same statistical category for his eight year+ career.
