WEEK 4 SHAW TOP PERFORMERS
TORONTO (July 21, 2015) – Shakir Bell, Jon Cornish and Marcus Howard were named the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week for Week 4 of the CFL’s 2015 season.
Shakir Bell made his CFL debut for the Edmonton Eskimos a memorable one after he helped lead the Eskimos to a 23-12 win over the Ottawa REDBLACKS, in Ottawa.
The single-season rushing yards leader at Indiana State carried the football on 18 occasions throughout the game and recorded 144 rushing yards, the most recorded by a single player in a game this season.
Calgary Stampeders running back Jon Cornish recorded 120 rushing yards in the Stampeders’ 26-25 comeback victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at McMahon Stadium.
The nine-year veteran and New Westminster, British Columbia native carried the ball 18 times for a season-high 120 yards. It was his first game with over 100 rushing yards; one season ago he notched that feat six times.
Edmonton Eskimos defensive end Marcus Howard becomes the first defensive player to be named a Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Week.
Howard notched four tackles including a pair of sacks and a forced fumble in the Eskimos’ 23-12 road victory over Ottawa.
The Huger, South Carolina native sacked Henry Burris twice in the fourth quarter. One of these sacks resulted in an 11-yard loss, and the other was a five-yard sack wherein he forced a fumble.
This is the first time two players from the same team have been named Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Week in the same week.
