WEEK 6 CFL SIM: ARGOS, ALOUETTES, TICATS, LIONS WIN!

ESKS-ARGOS

ARGONAUTS 25 ESKIMOS 14

EDMONTON – Matt Nichols threw for 381 yards and two touchdowns as the Toronto Argonauts handed the Edmonton Eskimos their first loss of the 2020 CFL SIM season.

In a computer-simulated game on Doug Flutie’s Maximum Football, Edmonton got off to a fast start as quarterback Trevor Harris found Anthony Parker for a 52-yard first quarter touchdown and the Esks built up a 13-3 halftime lead. All the Argos could muster in the game’s opening 30 minutes was a Boris Bede field goal.

However it all came together for the Boatmen in the second half as Nichols found WR Llevi Noel for a 64-yard major in the third quarter. The Esks led 14-12 going into the final period however another Bede field goal gave the Argos the winning points and Toronto put the game on ice with a Nichols-to-Chandler Worthy 42-yard touchdown bomb in the dying moments.

Edmonton’s Trevor Harris finished the game with 278 yards passing and a touchdown while kicker Sean Whyte was 2/3 on field goals.

The game left both the Argos and Eskimos at 4-1 heading into Week 7.

ALOUETTES 29 STAMPEDERS 23 OT

MONTREAL – It was our first overtime game of the 2020 CFL SIM season! The Alouettes got off to a hot start as quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. found B.J. Cunningham and Eugene Lewis for a pair of touchdown receptions in the opening quarter, giving the Als a 20-2 lead over Calgary after one.

In a computer-generated game on Doug Flutie’s Maximum Football, the Stampeders found themselves trailing 23-11 at halftime however Bo Levi Mitchell settled in in the second half throwing a pair of touchdown strikes to WR Colton Hunchak. Montreal led 23-19 going into the fourth quarter however Bo Levi led Calgary on a 10-play, 55-yard drive in the waning moments which set up a 40-yard Rene Parades field goal to tie the game 23-23 with 0:00 left on the clock.

The Alouettes got the first possession in overtime and Big Play V.A. found WR Felix Faubert-Lussier for a 31-yard touchdown and a 29-23 lead. The Stampeders used all three downs on their only possession but couldn’t produce a touchdown and wound up on the losing end of a fairly high-scoring game by SIM standards.

The win upped Montreal’s record to 2-3 while Calgary fell to 4-2. The weary Stampeders completed a stretch of four straight road games with a loss.

TIGER-CATS 21 REDBLACKS 16

OTTAWA – Week 6 in the CFL SIM season closed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats getting back on track and the hometown RedBlacks still looking for their first win under virtual new head coach Paul LaPolice.

In a computer-simulated game on Doug Flutie’s Maximum Football, Ottawa came out firing at TD Place under QB Nick Arbuckle building up a 10-0 lead after the first quarter and 13-6 at halftime. Hamilton pivot Jeremiah Masoli found his groove in the third quarter, capping a 6-play, 59-yard drive with a touchdown strike to Brandon Banks cutting Ottawa’s lead to 13-12 going into the fourth quarter. However rookie Ticats kicker Matthew White hit three straight field goals – as part of a 5/5 evening – in the final frame to give the Ticats the 21-16 victory.

Arbuckle was sat down in the second half, making way for back-up Dominique Davis. The East Carolina product tossed for 350 yards in one half of work but couldn’t rally Ottawa to victory. LaPolice now faces a tough decision at quarterback in Week 7 as they host Edmonton.

The RedBlacks fell to 0-5 with the loss while the Ticats improved to 2-3.
