BRANDON, Man. – John Quenneville scored twice as the Brandon Wheat Kings got past the Moose Jaw Warriors 5-3 on Friday night in Game 1 of their Western Hockey League quarter-final playoff series.


Tanner Kaspick’s short-handed goal at 13:21 of the third was the winner for Brandon. Tyler Coulter, on the power play, and Kale Clague also chipped in.


Jayden Halbgewachs, Noah Gregor and Brayden Point found the back of the net for the Warriors.

Jordan Papirny turned away 24 shots for the win in net. Zach Sawchenko made 33 saves in defeat.

The Wheat Kings were 1 for 2 on the power play with Moose Jaw scoring once on three chances with the man advantage.

KENT, Wash. – Carter Hart made 26 saves as Everett shut out Seattle 3-0 and took a 1-0 series lead.
Remi Laurencelle scored twice – including the eventual winner – for the Silvertips, while Matt Fonteyne added a power-play goal.


Landon Bow stopped 26 shots in net for the Thunderbirds.
The Regina Pats open Round 2 of the WHL Playoffs Saturday in Red Deer in a 7:00 pm start on 620 CKRM.
