WHL FINAL OPENS FRIDAY NIGHT; GAMES 3-7 ON TSN

Edmonton, Alta. – The 2022 WHL Championship Series begins Friday, June 3 in Edmonton, featuring the WHL Eastern Conference Champion Edmonton Oil Kings and the WHL Western Conference Champion Seattle Thunderbirds. As a part of the lead up to the 2022 WHL Championship Series, the 2022 WHL Awards were hosted on WHL Live on Wednesday, June 1. Edmonton Oil Kings defenceman Luke Prokop, a prospect of the Nashville Predators, was presented with the WHL’s Doug Wickenheiser Memorial Trophy as WHL Humanitarian of the Year. The 2022 WHL Championship Series opens Friday at Rogers Place in Edmonton, as the Oil Kings and Thunderbirds face off in the 54th WHL Championship in search of a berth at the 102nd edition of the Memorial Cup presented by Kia, scheduled for June 20-29 in Saint John, N.B. This marks the first time in WHL history the Edmonton Oil Kings and Seattle Thunderbirds will meet in the WHL Championship Series.  The Oil Kings last appeared in the WHL Championship Series in 2014, defeating the Portland Winterhawks to claim Edmonton’s second title in three years.  Seattle’s last trip to the WHL Championship Series came in 2017, as the Thunderbirds skated past the Regina Pats in six games to earn the franchise’s first and only WHL Championship. Games 3-7 of the 2022 WHL Championship Series will be aired on national broadcast on TSN.
