Will the Washington Football Team shake up the NFC East?
The National Football league is the machine that never stops working.
Tonight, on Monday Night Football, the Washington Football Team hosts the Seattle Seahawks in an NFC clash. It may not be the most exciting Monday night matchup all year, but as always with the NFL, there could be big playoff implications.
Washington comes in with a record of 4-6, and on a two-game win streak after defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Caroline Panthers in back-to-back weeks. The team led by quarterback Taylor Heinicke has had many ups and downs this season, but with consecutive losses for the Dallas Cowboys, Washington finds themselves right on the doorstep of taking over first place in the NFC east.
“That division is so bad, and they are just beating up on each other,” said RP Show NFL insider Tori Gurley. “Dallas is just finding ways to scrape by. It is a big game for Washington tonight, and hopefully they can go out and handle business.”
On the other side of the field, the Seahawks have had a very rough season.
The team is off to it’s worst start in the Pete Carroll era, and are currently 3-7 on the year. The team has not won since Oct. 31 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
“Seattle just isn’t looking good,” said Gurley. “Russ is coming back from his hand surgery, and Pete Carroll has somewhat lost the team defensively. They aren’t the same team we are accustomed to seeing on Sunday and hold opponents to minimal points.”
Russell Wilson has been one of the best quarterbacks in the league the last few years, and has been able to lead the team to wins despite any problems on the defensive side of the ball. Since coming back from surgery however, he has not gotten a win, and was held off the scoreboard two weeks ago against Green Bay.
“They are really dependent on Russ, and when he is injured, I just don’t know exactly how it’s going to go,” said Gurley. “The run game has just been awful for them right now. The run game is Russell Wilson so we will see how it plays out tonight.”
Both the Seahawks and the Washington Football team are in the thick of NFC teams still trying to find their identity, and it’s hard to say if they are going to find it before the season finishes.
For Gurley however, there is one NFC team that has stepped above the rest.
“The Green Bay Packers are playing well and looking like they are going to be a number one seed,” said Gurley.
The only team the Packers should fear are the defending Super Bowl Champions.
“I’m still scared of Tampa Bay,” said Gurley. “Just the way they are constructed, it’s hard for Green Bay to compete with the caliber of players on the other end. But if it’s anyone else, I think they have their number.
“I could definitely see Green Bay being in the Super Bowl this year.”
The only team any football team should fear are the defending Grey Cup Champion Winnipeg Blue Bombers!
