WILLY GETS THE NOD

Drew Willy will get his second start of the season at quarterback for the Saskatchewan Roughriders Saturday afternoon when they host the Edmonton Eskimos in the final game of the 2013 CFL regular season.

“I’m sure you could tell by practice I’m starting,” Willy said after Thursday’s practice at Mosaic Stadium, another workout in which #1 man Darian Durant did not participate.  “I mean I don’t think that’s a secret this week.  I’m looking forward to it, been having a good week of practice, it’s always fun to throw to these guys.  It’s been fun and looking to go out here and be successful, do good things, and put ourselves in position to win.”

Willy was asked if it’s a good opportunity to show himself for the Ottawa expansion draft in December.

“I think every single day’s an audition.  From the film room, to the field, to doing the right things mentally and physically, I’m looking forward to it.  The ultimate goal is to win but you also want to play well as an individual.”

Willy scoffed at the notion that Saturday’s game is meaningless to the Roughriders.

“I think it’s meaningful for everyone,” Willy said.  “12 wins is a big deal.  I think we need to get this win.  I think everyone would say it’s a meaningful game.   Obviously in the playoff race it’s not but you’re always auditioning for your job.  I take that approach everyday of my life.”

Unless they are out of the playoffs no team wants to enter playoffs on a losing streak. That being said we don't want any unnecessary injuries to the team so tricky planning for this game I'm sure.

Roddy – Where's the CKRM Picks? I always like to see them before I put a Brown Bill down on Sports Select.

The #2 QB in this province is always the popular one, or seems to be. Anyways I hope he has a great game.

The worst part of this is if Willy plays well against Edmonton (and he should because it's Edmonton, no disrespect to Willy), and then Durant struggles against BC even for a bit, the whiners will demand to see Willy.

Yes Rod the Raiders are retiring Modano's #9, the first number retired in the history of the club. The Raiders also have a wall of honour, similar to the Riders plaza of honour, which honours past players and team builders.

The heck with Sunseri, I want to see the kid in Grade 12 in the US that will eventually come up here after he's done college.
