YOUNG INJURES HAMSTRING ON DAY 10
SASKATOON – Roughriders quarterback Vince Young left the field at Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon Tuesday morning with a lower body injury. The injury occurred after Young took off with the football during a play in the skeleton period. He went down on the sidelines afterwards, then headed into the facility without assistance.
“It looked like a hamstring. We’ll find out more this afternoon,” Riders Head Coach & GM Chris Jones said after the workout. “Anytime you have a quarterback, and you’re trying to evaluate quarterbacks, and you get one hurt, it’s never a positive.”
When asked if this affects Young’s status for Saturday’s home preseason game against Winnipeg, Jones responded, “We’ll see”.
On another note, quarterback Jake Heaps was released by the Seattle Seahawks on Monday. Heaps participated in the Roughriders’ Florida minicamp in April, however he signed with Seattle just a few days later.
Jones revealed that John Murphy and Jeremy O’Day have both been in contact with Heaps’ representatives in the past 24 hours but couldn’t say if he’ll make his way to Saskatoon.
In order to add Heaps, the Roughriders will have release a player – at any position – and they’re not necessarily prepared to do that before Saturday’s game.
We’ll have more on the SportsCage this afternoon at 4:00 pm from Saskatoon
