A coupla three or more thoughts entering the weekend …
#1 – There’s only one series left going in Round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Vegas advanced last night with a 5-1 torching of Anaheim in the clinching Game 6. Roasted duck anyone?
The Golden Knights are off to the Western Conference Final for the first time since 2023 and it’s because they had the guts to make a coaching change with eight games left in the regular season. Some teams will do whatever it takes to win. Other teams, well …
#2 – Mitch Marner had two points for the Knights and leads the Stanley Cup Playoffs in scoring. Remember last Fall when we asked who would have the better season: Marner or his former team, the Leafs? To a man, all my pundits said Marner. Not sure if my pundits are that good or if the Leafs are just that bad.
#3 – That only other series still going is Montreal-Buffalo and the Habs can close it out with a Game 6 home win on Saturday. Their 6-3 victory last night in the Empire State was bonkers. This series has been very tough to predict. Oh ya, and there’s no NHL hockey tonight which means you can watch PA try to stave off elimination in the WHL Final at home against Everett in Game 5 on TSN.
#4 – Lotsa talk over the NFL schedule release Thursday night and many feel the ratings will show that’s ESPN’s “Schedule Release Show” will have drawn higher ratings than the NHL playoffs. Meh, to each their own. I’ve tried for years to get into schedule release hoopla, and just can’t.
And #5 – The CFL preseason opens on Monday with Saskatchewan at Calgary and it doesn’t appear that the game is being televised. Can’t say as I blame TSN, nor the CFL with that decision.
