Tuesday Commentary: The Good, The Great & The Ugly

(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on All New Hits 98 & LTD Radio)
It’s Tuesday and time for the Good, the Great & the Ugly!
First the good: Kinda feels like Canada’s ready to go off, doesn’t it? Canada’s leading its pool at the World Cup and can cinch it with a win on Wednesday versus Switzerland in Vancouver, and move onto the next stage.
I’m guessing your upbringing wasn’t too different from mine; soccer was the furthest thing from our mind. But in the 90s, a lot of my friends’ kids were playing soccer and I thought to myself “This is gonna be big in 30 years.”
Now, here we are.
And when I saw my 86-year old uncle watching soccer in his farmhouse living room on Sunday afternoon, I thought to myself, “We’re not going back.”
Next the great: I’m getting lots of messages from my Florida friends over the past 24-36 hours. It’s always been the place to be sports-wise but with the NHL’s Panthers acquiring Brady Tkachuk on Sunday and the NBA’s Heat acquiring the Greek Freak on Monday, South Florida sports is about to explode.
Now, if we could just do something about the NFL’s Dolphins, who were picked to win just “4-5 games” by NFL Radio’s Zig Fracassi on the RP Show last week.
And finally the ugly: Every year Theoren Fleury hopes to hear his name included in the Hockey Hall of Fame induction class and every year he’s disappointed.
That happened again on Monday, when this year’s class was announced. It’s headlined by Brian Burke – no argument here – but Keith Tkachuk?
I liked Keith a lot as a player, but a Hall of Famer? Umm, no. Methinks the voters got caught up in being prisoners of the moment (Keith’s boys are the current poster children of the NHL) and forgot to check resumes.
Tkachuk’s doesn’t hold a candle to Theo’s.
And sadly, for that reason, I can’t take the Hall of Fame seriously anymore.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

I agree, the Hockey Hall of Fame lost all credibility when they announced Keith Tkachuk’s name.
They were putting Russians in.
He’s a legit USA guy and if Modano, Leetch, and Roenick are in. He’s their Captain and deserves it. Walt was legit but was in a crappy era and obscurity. Mike Richter should be in before Rinne and Curtis Joseph needs to get in there.
Congratulations Hall of Fame voters.
Yes… it is extremely difficult to take the HHOF seriously with no Theo… No Paul Henderson and No Donald S Cherry
Keith Tkachuk I can live with. I watched a lot of his games and always likes him. I had him in that poor man’s Cam Neely power forward. I really liked him in Winnipeg then with Phoenix/St Louis he was decent but the teams didn’t go anywhere. He was a good Captain. Theo Fleury Claude Lemieux Brad McCrimmon Dale Hunter Rod Brind’Amour Curtis Joseph Mike Keenan Vs any five guys, a goalie, and a coach in the HHOF Long gone and forgotten players and a builder Garry Unger Charlie Huddy Dave Taylor JC Trembley Don Cherry It’s a disgrace but… Read more »
