Wednesday Commentary: No Handbook

It’s Random Thoughts Wednesday! 

#1 – Every time I turn on a Blue Jays game, they suck. The Jays got bombed 12-2 by Tampa Bay last night and not only are they not going to be buyers before the August 3 MLB trade deadline, word’s getting out that they’ll be sellers.

That could include fan favourite Kevin Gausman, who took the loss last night, and said trade speculation is “impossible to ignore” in the social media age.

NFL/CFL vet Jon Ryan said he doesn’t know if he’d have survived playing in today’s social media era.

But hey! This isn’t the Good, the Great & the Ugly!

Chins up.

#2 – The Riders announced Tuesday night that they will honour crash victim Bhishma Rajyaguru prior to Thursday’s home date with Edmonton. I’d expect they’ll be recognizing player Jayden Dalke, who was killed in the same accident.

Talk about a PR nightmare the Riders didn’t ask for.

If they asked me I’d suggest they show both victims on the scoreboard and ask for a moment of silence, and then kick it off. I was in on these types of meetings back in the day, and we seemed to handle things pretty well. Although we never dealt with anything quite this bad.

If there’s a handbook on how to deal with something like this, I never saw it.

#3 – If there’s one thing I’ve noticed with our expanded coverage on the RP Show, it’s that NHL fans can’t get enough hockey talk, year-round.

We had Detroit sportscaster Lou Gamelin on the air Tuesday and he said he hopes the Oilers win a Stanley Cup this season because the Mike Babcock act is going to get old fast. Oiler fans predictably jumped on the quote like a fat kid on a Smartie.

Is it September yet?
