COORS LIGHT RECAP: PATS DROP NEW YEARS CLASH WITH RAIDERS

REGINA – Max Paddock made 51 saves to kick off 2019 but the Prince Albert Raiders edged the Regina Pats 5-3 at the Brandt Centre on Tuesday.
The Raiders outshot the Pats 18-4 in the first period, but Paddock stopped them all and it was scoreless after one.
Early in the second, the Raiders scored shorthanded to take the 1-0 lead. The Pats drew even late in the frame, Robbie Holmes scored on a breakaway for his eighth and it was 1-1 after two.
In the third, Prince Albert took a 2-1 lead with a powerplay goal, but the Pats responded 14 seconds later to tie it up. Liam Schioler from the left circle for his third and it was 2-2. 1:22 after that, Riley Krane picked up his seventh of the season and the Pats took their first lead at 3-2. The Raiders came back with a tying goal at 11:04 and then a powerplay marker at 15:39 to take the lead back at 4-3. The Pats pulled Paddock late, but Prince Albert scored into the empty net with one second left and took the two points in a 5-3 final.
The Pats were outshot 56-23. The powerplay was 0/3 while the penalty kill went 3/5.
Riley Krane led the offence with a goal and an assist, while Max Paddock was fantastic making 51 saves.

The Pats (12-25-0-1) will return to action on Friday on the road against the Saskatoon Blades at 7 p.m. on 620 CKRM.
