WHEAT KINGS TOP PATS 7-4

BRANDON – The Regina Pats fell 7-4 on Wednesday night to the Wheat Kings in Brandon, denying Regina a third straight win.

The Pats got off to a good start when Sam Steel scored his 13th of the year on a breakaway. The Wheat Kings would tie it with a breakaway goal of their own, but Matt Bradley restored the lead for Regina with his team leading 19th and it was 2-1 after 20 minutes.

In the second, the Wheat Kings scored three times to the Pats one which came off the stick of Sam Steel, his second of the night and it was 4-3 Brandon heading to the third.

The Wheat Kings took a 5-3 lead, five minutes into the final frame but, Dawson Davidson got it back with his sixth to make it 5-4. However, 16 seconds later Stelio Mattheos scored his 22nd to give Brandon the 6-4 advantage, they would add an empty netter late for a 7-4 final.

The Pats outshot the Wheat Kings 41-33, the powerplay was 1/1 and the penalty kill was 3/4.

Sam Steel, Nick Henry and Emil Oksanen led the offence with two points each while Tyler Brown made 26 saves.
