VIGR RECAP: PATS 5 HITMEN 1 (REGINA LEADS 2-0)

REGINA – In a script very similar to Game 1 of their first round WHL playoff series, Regina and Calgary battled hard early in a tight-checking Game 2 Saturday night in the Brandt Centre, only to see the Pats eventually take over and skate to a lopsided 5-1 victory.
Pats overage forward Dawson Leedahl opened the scoring at 11:44 of the first period and the 1-0 lead held up through 20 minutes.
Hitmen winger Andrew Fyten tied the contest at 2:16 of the second on a 60-foot wristshot which eluded Pats goalie Tyler Brown and it was 1-1.
From there, the Pats took over as Adam Brooks and Leedahl both beat Calgary netminder Cody Porter for a 3-1 Regina lead after two periods.
Regina never let up in the final frame as Nick Henry and Sam Steel (empty net) both scored their firsts of the postseason to put the game away. The Hitmen weren’t able to sustain much pressure in the third, applying only five shots.

Pats fan favourite Sam Steel was the game’s first star, collecting a goal and four assists.
Regina outshot the visitors 39-27 while going 1/3 on the powerplay and 4/4 killing penalties.
Tyler Brown made 26 saves to collect the win and improve to 2-0 in the postseason between the Pats pipes.
The attendance was a sellout at 6,484, the Pats’ 16th sellout of the year.
The series now shifts to Calgary for Game 3 on Tuesday. It’s a 7:00 pm MT faceoff on 620 CKRM and Access/Shaw.
