Bo Horvat scored the shootout winner and added a pair of assists as the Vancouver Canucks edged the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 for their third straight win. Alexandre Burrows and Sven Baertschi found the back of the net in regulation for the Canucks. Drake Caggiula and Connor McDavid had goals for Edmonton.

Michael Frolik ended a 20-game goalless drought and also added an assist as the Calgary Flames beat the Arizona Coyotes 4-2. Mikael Backlund, Dennis Wideman and Lance Bouma also scored in the first period for Calgary. The Flames are now 4-0 against the Coyotes this season. Calgary’s Brian Elliott finished with 27 saves.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have tied the second-longest win streak in NHL history. Cam Atkinson scored twice as Columbus doubled up the Wild 4-2 to halt Minnesota’s own winning run at 12 games. Never before in NHL history had two teams taken winning streaks that long into a game.

Evgeni Malkin picked a good time to score his 16th of the season. He found the back of the net on a power play in overtime to lift Pittsburgh to a 4-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens. And the New York Islanders topped Winnipeg 6-2 for their fourth win in five games. John Tavares and Ryan Strome had a goal and an assist apiece for New York.

Canada’s junior team will be travelling to Montreal to play their quarter-final matchup against the Czech Republic on Monday. The Canadians fell 3-1 to the United States in their final preliminary game in Toronto, dropping to second place in the Group B standings. The undefeated Americans won Group B and get to stay in Toronto for their quarter-final against Switzerland.

Clemson will get its rematch with Alabama in the College Football Playoff championship game. Deshaun Watson accounted for 316 yards and three touchdowns, and the Tigers manhandled Ohio State 31-0 in the Fiesta Bowl. Earlier, Alabama downed Washington 24-7 to win the Peach Bowl and advance to the national championship. Alabama beat Clemson in last year’s title game.

Congratulations "Team Canada" on winning another hockey championship Spengler Cup title. Defending champions. Thoughly enjoyed watching this hockey tournament.
