University of Regina Rams slotback Mitchell Picton earned the No. 20 ranking on the CFL Scouting Bureau’s December list of prospects eligible for the 2017 CFL Draft, which was released on Thursday morning.

Picton was unranked in the Bureau’s first list of prospects released in mid-September, but broke into the December rankings after a stellar 2016 season that saw the fourth-year player lead the nation and tie a school single-season record with 11 touchdown catches while earning first-team All-Canadian honours.

“Mitch had a great season and really developed into an elite player at this level, and it was great to see all the hard work he’s put in pay off,” said Rams offensive coordinator Mark McConkey, who was Picton’s teammate on the Rams during the 2013 season. “He’s a tough receiver that’s always in the right place and doing the right thing on the field, whether that’s blocking the right guy or converting his route to specific coverages.”

Picton was also first in Canada West and second in the country with 58 receptions, a mark which broke the University of Regina record of 55 set by Addison Richards during the 2014 campaign. Picton was also the conference’s leader with 834 receiving yards, a mark which ranks third in U of R single-season history.

The CFL Scouting Bureau will release a third and final ranking of prospects this April. The date for the 2017 CFL Draft has yet to be announced, but has been held the second Tuesday in May each of the previous three years.

IMHO – the Riders should be going after OL

but only if their Agent is NOT the same one that Josiah St. John or Matthew O'Donnell (now with the Esks) have.

Avoid that Turd of an Agent. If I were the parent of one of these hopefuls and he was my son's agent – I would recommend getting a different agent.

Good luck Mitchell Picton.
