The Vancouver Canucks continue to stumble. Cal Clutterbuck and Andrew Ladd scored less than two minutes apart midway through the third period to lift the Islanders to a 4-2 win over Vancouver. That’s the Canucks’ ninth straight loss after starting the season 4-0.

Defenceman Jacob Trouba is back with the Jets. The team signed the defenceman to a two-year deal that will pay him $2.5-million dollars this season and $3.5 million next year. Trouba missed Winnipeg’s training camp while sitting out over a dispute with the team.

Denis Alexeev scored less than a minute into overtime as Russia defeated Team Western Hockey League 3-2 in Prince George on Monday night in Game 1 of the Canada-Russia Series.

Nikita Li and Danila Kvartalnov scored for Russia in regulation time with Li giving his team a 1-0 lead just 1:13 into the game.

Jansen Harkins of the Prince George Cougars had a first-period goal for Team WHL and Sam Steel of the Regina Pats tied the game 2-2 on a power play in the third period.

Anton Krasotkin made 32 saves for the Russians. Kamloops Blazers goaltender Connor Ingram stopped 18 shots in defeat.

Russia plays Team WHL again on Tuesday before taking on Team OHL for two games in four nights starting Thursday.

Russia then plays Team QMJHL on Nov. 15 and Nov. 17.

Cubs president Theo Epstein has been voted The Sporting News Major League Baseball Executive of the Year. Balloting by 56 big league executives took place before the post-season. The Cubs led the majors with 103 wins during the regular season and beat Cleveland in a seven-game World Series for their first title since 1908.

Toronto sluggers Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion were among 10 free agents to receive 17.2-million dollar qualifying offers from their respective teams on Monday. Players have until next Monday to accept. For free agents who decline and sign elsewhere, their new team loses a high selection in next June’s amateur draft and their old club gets an extra pick.

Jimmy Graham needed only one hand to catch two first-half touchdown passes, and the Seattle Seahawks held off a late rally for a 31-25 win over the Buffalo Bills. Seattle won its 11th straight Monday night game. Graham used his right arm to catch a 17-yard touchdown on the first play of the second quarter and later used the same arm to cradle an 18-yard T-D pass in the final moments of the first half.

University of Wisconsin-Madison officials have revoked season tickets for two football fans who wore a costume that involved one wearing masks of President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton with a noose around their necks. The other wore a Donald Trump mask and led the first man around by the noose.
