GOOD NEWS FOR DURANT FANS

Roughriders Coach and GM Chris Jones told reporters on Thursday that talks on a new contract for quarterback Darian Durant have begun.

Jones wouldn’t go into details but said they’ve spoken with Durant and that, “he knows we want him here”.

Durant is in his 11th year in Saskatchewan but his contract is set to expire after this season. He’s already gone on record as saying he wants to play 7-8 more seasons, but wants them to be with Saskatchewan.

Meanwhile Rider KR/RB Kendial Lawrence has been placed on the team’s Suspended List due to a “family emergency” according to Jones.  However that had nothing to do with Lawrence being scratched from the lineup in last week’s win over Edmonton.

$200.000. – $250,000. games played performance laden would be more than a fair deal return to the team.

Laughable.

You realize 200-250k is basically backup money in the CFL now right?

So unless you see a bonus of about 12k per game dressed (not starts, because they can just not start him if they into salary cap trouble), you're crazy.

Keep DD and let Lawrence go wherever he wants.

Performance laden deal for a 11 year vet? Haha. 400k minimum or he won't be here.

Willy and Burris both make 450k for cripes sake.

The Riders absolutely need to re-sign Durant. He is playing very well despite a horrible o-line in front of him.Don't understand the Durant "hate" at all.He will go down as one of the Rider greats and easily has another 2 to 4 years of high level play left.

Further…if you could take any starting QB in the CFL who would you take ahead of Durant? Mitchell in Calgary is propped up by the best o-line in the league. Put Durant behind that line and see what happens. Look at 2013 when we had the best o-line in the league. I honestly don't think I would take any other QB over Durant. No one in the East is any better. Maybe Reilly has an edge but again, put them on similar teams and see….

I'd take Mitchell, Collaros, Reilly over DD in a heartbeat

No … Mitchell makes $360K and that's with Huff's intelligent book ? keeping. I'm thinking there is some hidden realestate in there somewhere.

Curt; That's selective memory. Calgary's O-line was better then, like it is now. The West final was in Calgary because they were better for the season.

DD has never played behind the league's best line.

That makes no sense and is completely wrong. They get along just fine and Jones knows it's his complete gutting of the team that created the poor results of 2016

Probably the best news out of Rider camp in a long time. The Durant detractors will be so disappointed. They want another 20 year lull where the Rider audition 40 some QBs before they find a star player that's willing to put up with the un filtered fish bowl crap that goes along with that position.
Thanks Darian for hanging in there and not listening to the negative Nelly's and some of the piss poor teams that have been assembled around you.

I look forward to DD signing with the team! With a few tweaks to the O-Line we will be unstoppable with the receiving core that Jones is building, running on rookies this year, next year will have that much more experience and that much more rapport with DD. I take this as a good thing for the Rider's and we will see how the cards fall next year.

Why? DD has won slightly over 50% of the games he has started for Sask. Completion % around 60 (most lately for 4-6 years). Not the future of this club.

No Durant … No hope for the next five years … we could maybe get Henry Burris but he may soon be getting too old, or Lulay but chances are he will want to stay on the west coast with Wally.
