REGINA PATS TRAINING CAMP DAY 2 UPDATE

Regina, Saskatchewan – The rookies were back on the ice to start day two of the 2016 Regina Pats Training Camp on Sunday. Team White took on Team Navy for a third time.  Navy had won the first two matchups on Day One.

The opening frame was scoreless with White leading in shots on goal 15-12.  In the second, Team White broke the deadlock on the power play when Michael Ladyman found a loose puck left side, beating Dawson Rattai. Riley Krane tied things up for Team Blue later in the frame. The period ended 2-1 White on a marker for Luc Masse. Duncan Pierce tied it up for Navy in the third. It did not last as Logan Nijhoff got the pull ahead goal and that is how things would end.

As was the case on Day One, the vets took to the ice in practices following the rookie scrimmage.

The afternoon scrimmages started with the rookies: Team Navy and Team White meeting for a fourth time. The teams traded goals early on from White’s Kjell Kjemhus and Navy’s Spencer Weinkauf.  White took the lead into the intermission after Miguel Tetreault buried the puck in the net. In the middle frame, White’s Bryan Lockner gave his team a 3-1 lead.   Navy responded with two-in-a-row from Cole Muir and Duncan Pierce to pull even. Navy could get no closer in the third.  White got goals from Bryan Lockner and two from Tristen Robins for the 6-3 victory.

Veteran Team’s Red and Light Blue met in the evening scrimmage with Red looking for some redemption after a 9-3 loss on Saturday night. Blue opened things up on the power play with Jake Leschyshyn getting the only goal of the period.

In the second, Red got three goals from Austin Wagner, Jared Freadrich and Lane Zablocki to take the lead at 3-1. Luc Smith had two assists in the period.  In the third, Team Red would seal the deal with goals from Riley Woods and Adam Brooks.  Light Blue added two thanks to Filip Ahl who got two markers.  Red takes the scrimmage 5-3.

The traditional Blue and White Game is next up, taking place tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the Cooperators Arena.  It only cost $2 to get or a non-perishable food time for the Regina & District Food Bank.  Training Camp is brought to you by Bennett Dunlop Ford.
