The Blue Jays are in first place in the AL East after a dominant 9-1 victory over the visiting Orioles. Toronto’s offence errupted for a seven-run fifth inning to back a solid start from left-hander J.A. Happ. Happ earned his eighth straight win and is 14-3. Devon Travis went deep for the Jays.

Mitch Moreland homered with two outs in the ninth inning to give the AL West-leading Rangers a 2-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals. That came two nights after he homered twice in a 3-2 win in the series opener against the stumbling defending World Series champions.

Yasiel Puig is expected back in the Dodgers’ starting lineup Sunday against the Diamondbacks. Puig has been limited to three pitch-hitting appearances over LA’s last seven games because of tightness in his right hamstring. Puig is hitting .255 with seven homers and 32 RBIs in 272 at-bats.

World number 1 Novak Djokovic made easy work of Frenchmen Gael Monfils for a spot in the Rogers Cup men’s final. The Serbian beat the 10th-seeded Monfils in straight sets. Djokovic will face third seed Kei Nishikori of Japan in the final Sunday. Nishikori earned his spot with a straight-sets win over Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka.

Simona Halep is returning to the Rogers Cup women’s final. The fifth-seeded Romanian beat Germany’s Angelique Kerber in three sets to advance to the final for the second straight year. She will face American Madison Keys. The 10th-seeded Keys beat Slovakia’s Kristina Kucova in straight sets. Last year in the final, Halep retired because of illness, handing the title to Belinda Bencic.

Skydiver Luke Aikins has become the first person to jump from a plane into a net on the ground without the benefit of a parachute. Aikins jumped from 25-thousand feet in the air. He hit the 100-by-100-foot net perfectly, quickly climbed out of it and walked over to hug his wife, who had been watching with other family members.
