CRAIG SMITH JOINS HOMETOWN BLUE BOMBERS

WINNIPEG  –  Winnipeg Blue Bombers General Manager Kyle Walters announced on Monday the appointment of Craig Smith as the club’s National Scout.

A Winnipeg native, Smith joins the Blue Bombers with nearly two decades of personnel experience in the CFL. Most recently with the Saskatchewan Roughriders for the past six seasons as their Director of Player Personnel, Smith was responsible for the identification and evaluation of collegiate and junior players across Canada and the United States while also playing a key role in their CFL Draft process.

Prior to joining Saskatchewan, Smith spent a total of eight seasons with the B.C. Lions in a capacity of roles within their player personnel department. He entered the CFL in 1999 when he first joined the Lions as a guest coach. Smith also spent three seasons as the Director of Player Personnel for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats from 2005-2007 before returning to the Lions for the 2008 season as a scout.

“Adding a man of Craig’s abilities to our personnel department is really significant for us,” said General Manager Kyle Walters. “He’s got years of successful experience in our league, and as good as he is in the role of finding and recruiting talent, he’s also a true professional and the type of person we’re always looking to add to our organization.”

The club also announces former National Scout Drew Morris has accepted a role with the New York Jets, and is no longer with the organization.

I hope not. I want the Blue Bombers to be the second best team in the league, behind only the Riders.
