Wednesday Commentary: Wonderwall

It’s Random Thoughts Wednesday!

#1 – It’s time everyone pays attention to the Moose Jaw Miller Express. In the final home game of the regular season, the Millers blasted the Regina Red Sox 22-5 for a franchise record 41st victory. Afterwards, the players formed a human chain and serenaded the crowd with their version of the 1995 hit “Wonderwall” by British pop group Oasis. I’ve never seen anything like it. The playoffs being Friday.

#2 – In long games like that, with no color guy, I play little games to amuse myself and the viewers on the broadcasts. Last night we played a game of “Famous people from ____ (the players hometowns).” Did you know famous people from Wichita, Kansas are Kirstie Alley, Don Johnson, Barry Sanders and Joe Walsh? The things you learn.

#3 – For once the Roughriders aren’t involved in Canada’s Game of the Week in the CFL. That honour belongs to the Edmonton-at-Montreal game on Saturday, in a battle of division leaders. But people are still buzzing about Friday’s Rider home date with Ottawa. That should be a motorboating.

#4 – It was incredibly disrespectful of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers to go on his buddy Pat McAfee’s show on Monday and rip McAfee’s network ESPN, calling them “gutless” and saying they have “no integrity”. I don’t have any problems with Rodgers thoughts on that, nor his take on America’s top doctor Anthony Fauci, whom Rodgers called a coward, but it put McAfee in a terribly awkward position with the network which gives him $60M per year. For their part, ESPN issued a “no comment” to ProFootballTalk.com on the Rodgers’ comments.

It’s hard to say how they feel about it – and I still wonder if bad publicity is better than none – but maybe … they just don’t mind being called those names. But I doubt it.
