ROUGHRIDERS STATEMENT ON MAURICE PRICE

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have confirmed international receiver Maurice Price has filed retirement papers to the Canadian Football League.

“We are surprised and disappointed to hear of Maurice Price’s decision to retire. We were given no indication when we acquired Maurice and negotiated a new contract that he may not continue playing,” stated Riders General Manager and Head Coach Chris Jones. “As a team we will continue to move forward with our free agent camps and work through the CFL Draft. An opportunity has opened up for another player.”

The Riders also confirmed that as per CFL regulations, the trade with the Ottawa Redblacks will stand.

The silver lining here is that one of the young new receivers will get a shot to be the next star in the CFL.

So he says he is going to play here, gets a signing bonus and then decides he is not going to play. Did he give the bonus back? Wonder if he ever planned on playing here? More money down the drain! Good job we have lots!!

The Riders can cover the signing bonus by selling 3 over priced jerseys.

What a snake. That cap hit would easily cover the difference on the loss of some of our FA's, #7, #97, #89, etc.
Somebody should answer for this debacle.

Price knew he wasn't going to play this year but still convinced that rube Jones to give him a contract with a bonus to boot. Looks like someone got schooled in contract negotiations.

Mah, talent wise, no big lose.

As far as the bonus money, every team does it to the players. If a player pulled it off against a team, have to say well played sir.

What signing bonus? You boneheads the signing was to get Price a longer contract but at a reduced price. He was the number 5 receiver in Ottawa. He wasn't getting any signing bonus. If you want speculation that has no facts. Try this one… as it makes far more sense than a receiver that didn't even hit a 1000 yards the previous season getting a signing bonus. More than likely Price realized with the talent coming in from the mini camp that he was going to remain a number 4 or 5 receiver. His new lower salary contract had a… Read more »

Lower overall salary doesn't mean no bonus was paid, genius.

Of course he received some money up front.

Why do some of you. Especially the jack ass from Alberta think that not paying a player bonus money in 2016 and then releasing them is screwing them? Give your fricken head a shake! The bonus money is a prepayment for their 2016 Season. It's not money that's owed from the previous season. When Chick and Dressler's agents had zero interest in renagotiating their contracts to be more cap friendly. Then it was time to part ways. What… Some of you think the orginization should pay them their bonus and then release them? Why the hell would you pay someone… Read more »
