GOING TO GAME 7

REGINA — The plucky Regina Pats forced a Game 7 in their second round WHL Playoffs series with Red Deer, smoking the Rebels 5-1 on Sunday before a soldout crowd of 6484 in the Brandt Centre.
The game was tied 1-1 after one as the clubs traded goals from Regina’s Jared McAmmond (just 2:24 into the contest) and Red Deer’s Jake DeBrusk.
The turning point was the entire second period in which the Pats outshot the Rebels 22-4 and scored three unanswered goals from Connor Hobbs, Cole Sanford and Lane Zablocki to up their lead to 4-1 after 40 minutes.
The Rebels didn’t mount much of a comeback in the third, although they outshot the home side 11-8. Regina’s Colby Williams scored the only goal of the final frame – his second of the playoffs – at 7:07 to put the game on ice.
NOTES:  Regina outshot Red Deer 40-21.  … Tyler Brown got the win in the Pats net while Rylan Toth took the loss. … Regina was 0/2 on the powerplay while Red Deer was 0/1. … Sam Steel and Hobbs led the Pats with two points each.
Game 7 goes Tuesday at the Enmax Centrium in Red Deer in a 7:00 pm faceoff on 620 CKRM radio and Access 7 television across Saskatchewan and selected parts of Alberta.

All the Pats had to do was get a new Play by Play man and a good one at that and fortunes for the organization turned around.

That's Junior Hockey…! The undersized but speedy/unrelentless Pats outwork the big Rebels when it is on the line. The Pats were whipped in Game 5 but all I saw tonight was heart, tenacity and oh, did I mention heart? Youngsters like Lane Zablocki, Jake Leschyshyn, Sean Richards working thier butts off against some huge defensemen and coming up with the puck. Call up Erik Gardner gets out on the PP in the 3rd…what an experience for him and what confidence shown by JP. What can be said about the iron man Hobbs, who could be picked a Game Star in… Read more »

Great effort by the Pats tonight. Hard to figure out Paddock and Struch and not showing confidence is some of the boys that got them to this point. Or maybe a hidden agenda? Other than last few minutes Smith and McAmmond didn't see much ice and Freadrich hardly saw any ice. That's tough to figure after those boys outplayed half the team the last 2.5 months of the season. Glad to see McAmmond finally draw in where he should of been all series. Short bench tonight even when it was 4-1 & 5-1. Might bite them in the ass trying… Read more »

Wow….a complete change from Game 5. The Pats got contributions from everyone and completely dominated the last two periods. Brown has been the difference in the Pats wins, hopefully he gets a little luck on Tuesday. Hobbs has shown that he is one of the top defence man in the WHL. Hopefully the Pats can find a way to utilize their speed in Game 7. Outstanding atmosphere at the Brandt Centre…..lets hope we haven't seen the last of the queen city kids.

I don't know if the Pats can win in Red Deer. The Rebels are as good at home as Regina has been in this series. Here's hoping for a good one.

I hope the Pats aren't satisfied yet. Keep it going and extend this playoff run. Don't want to hear that it has been a great year win or lose Tuesday. We can reflect when it is all done but until then keep it focused on winning.

And the Brandt Centre can't be considered a morgue anymore. Great atmosphere and you can see the team really feeds off of it. Hopefully they will think of that in Game 7 and want to play in front of another sell out Brandt Centre next week. Let's go Pats!

Great game today by the Pats. They were determined to come out with a win and they did. If they play with the same intensity on Tuesday night, there is no reason why they wouldn't advance to face Brandon. Will be cheering them on and hopefully get to have some more fun at the Brandt Centre this season. GO PATS GO!

Home team has won every game and that doesn't change Tuesday. Helluva a season by the Pats who weren't even supposed to be this good until next year.

Much more interested in the WHL than the NHL, hockey without the ego and drama. Take the money out of the equation and you're left with just the game. Go Pats! Whether it's one more game or one more series this has been a fun season to follow.

So much fun!! Pretty even scoring chances for awhile but the pats made theirs count!

I'd be worried about the mem cup if I was red deer with their goalie. He's shakie

Brooks is just awesome and Steele had a great game. Hobbs and Wagner are stars!!

second last post….I'd sooner see the pats be the Cinderella story and walk thru the front door then be the rebels who most likely be walking in the backdoor to the dance….see ya in game 7 cowboy !!!… GO PATS GO

Pats will be BIG LOSERS in Red Deer . The Rebels can't wait to get them back in their own Barn and Rag Doll them like they did last game there. They will show their True Strength and the Patsies will be hiding in the Corner. Go Rebels.

Will the big Game 6 Pats win also cause a goalie controversy in Red Deer for Game 7?? Toth or Martin, we will see…
