The MasterCard Memorial Cup-host Red Deer Rebels eliminated their Central Division rivals, the Calgary Hitmen, in five games to advance to Round 2. With the series tied at one game apiece, Red Deer went on to win the next three contests, outscoring Calgary 16-12 in the process. Adam Helewka netted five goals for Red Deer with three of them coming on the power play while teammates Jake DeBrusk and Evan Polei each netted three goals. The combination of Red Deer’s strong defensive play and steady goaltending was a difference maker in the match-up against Calgary. Rebels’ defenceman Haydn Fleury tallied a pair of assists and registered a plus-5 rating in what was an effective series for him on both ends of the ice. Netminder Trevor Martin was sensational for the Rebels as he recorded a 2.21 goals against average and a .927 save percentage with one shutout while starting all five contests.

The Regina Pats pulled off an upset as they dethroned the Central Division Champion Lethbridge Hurricanes in five games to advance to Round 2. Pats team captain Adam Brooks presently leads all WHL skaters in points with 14 (5g-9a) to go along with a plus-5 rating. Brooks was the top scorer in the regular season with an astonishing 120 points (38g-82a). The power play was effective for the Pats in their match-up with Lethbridge as they clicked for five goals in 20 opportunities which marks the second-best efficiency rate amongst playoff Clubs at 25.0%. The Pats defence was consistent throughout the series as they gave up only 10 goals against to a Hurricanes squad that scored the second most goals in regular season play with 304. Tyler Brown was solid for the Pats as the young netminder recorded four wins to go along with a .935 save percentage and a 2.00 goals against average. Brown is currently tied for first in post-season shutouts with two.

We are Rebels grandparents and former Rustler supporters. The Marquart boy didn't need to hear the local dad's chirping, it wasn't nice or necessary, we apologize. Let's have a great series between the teams.

warriors getting wasted 5-1 in second. They pulled goalie after he let 5th goal in on 38th shot (not his fault) , Moose Jaw has 12 shots. This is ugly as everyone in the hockey world knew it would be.
