WHEAT KINGS GO UP 3-2, ROYALS ADVANCE

EDMONTON – Jordan Thomson and John Quenneville had a goal and an assist each as Brandon beat the Oil Kings 5-2 for the third straight time to take a 3-2 series advantage.

Stelio Matteos also scored, with Reid Duke and Jayce Hawryluk adding empty-net goals for the Wheat Kings, who host Game 6 on Tuesday. Jordan Papirny made 22 saves for the win.

Darlo Meyer and Tyson Gruninger found the back of the net for Edmonton. Payton Lee kicked out 28-of-31 shots.

SPOKANE – Tyler Soy had two goals and two assists as the Victoria Royals downed the Spokane Chiefs 6-2 on Sunday in Game 6 of their Western Hockey League best-of-seven first-round series.

Jack Walker struck twice and added an assist for the Royals, who took the series 4-2. Matthew Philips and Scott Walford also scored while Alex Forsberg tacked on three assists.

Jordan Henderson and Keanu Yamamoto supplied the offence for the Chiefs.

Victoria’s Griffen Outhouse made 24 saves for the win as Lasse Petersen turned aside 19-of-25 shots for Spokane.

The Royals went 3 for 5 on the power play while the Chiefs failed to score on five chances with the man advantage.

Victoria will face either the Kamloops Blazers or Kelowna Rockets in the second round. That series is tied 3-3, with Game 7 set for Monday.

Who wrote the Wheat Kings story? Typos galore, it didn't even mention the actual score in the game and it says that Moose Jaw has already advanced.
