RIDERS UPDATE LOGO

The Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club officially unveiled an updated logo today. The original logo was developed in 1985 and has essentially remained unchanged for over 30 years.
“The timing was right for us to refresh and update our logo as we begin a new jersey partnership with adidas, and prepare to move into new Mosaic Stadium,” noted Riders Vice-President of Business Development and Marketing, Gregg Sauter. “While the changes are subtle, the logo more accurately reflects our official colour scheme with a clean and modern feel, while still maintaining the iconic image.”

There are four main changes made to the logo:

· Inside liner has been eliminated

· Three inside horizontal lines are now straight instead of staggered
· Shortened tail on the ‘S’ which is now equally balanced with the top
· Silver has been replaced with white

“The Rider logo is one of the most recognized marks in Canadian sports,” added Sauter. “Our goal was to evolve the logo in such a way that it becomes more vibrant with a distinct focus on the green and white. We feel the modifications will have a positive impact across the growing number of digital and physical mediums we are reaching.”
The new logo will be integrated wherever possible beginning immediately, with a full takeover in 2017.

Rider merchandise with the new logo, including the launch of the new adidas jerseys, will be available soon at all Rider Store locations.

I hope those new uniforms are nothing like the horrid third jerseys they introduced a couple of years ago.

I wonder if the logo on the green helmets will still be 'inverted'. On The green helmets trypically had the silver backed logo.

Hey, rod, why don't you post a picture of the old logo side by side with this one so that we can see the differences as well as just read them??

Agree with comment #4, the third jerseys are horrid.

As for those that like the third jersey, oh well, you are in the minority. Shouldn't everyone love the third jersey's, or is it somehow acceptable that less than a majority of fans like it – so they end up keeping it…

It does not make sense at all. How about something that does make sense 'a third jersey (complete uniform and helmet) that everyone loves'. Seems simple enough…

On a side note, do they actually pay someone for marketing because I just solved the problem for free…

Word on the street is that the Lions have signed former Rider QB Keith Price.

The signing of full-back Matt Walter is a great move by the Riders. Neil Hughes 2.0

cue the sheltered hillbilly's running out to get the brand new logo, which looks exactly like the old one. shame on the riders for making all the inbreds spend their money on this instead of basic things like a toothbrush, or maybe deodorant. poor sasky, nothing else to look forward to other than crappy football. mark my words the Rush will soon be pushing the riders for popularity. then what will all the holier than thou Regina people say about Saskatoon and how jealous they are? let the games begin

This is actually kind of funny, considering the lack of proper capitalization and punctuation throughout. Not sure who to blame for this one. Troll from another CFL city? Bitter resident of Saskatoon/Shelbyville? Probably the latter, some pea brained moron from a small town who brought the childish "my small town is better than your town" attitude with him when he left. Could also be some semi-literate, unemployed white trash rig worker from Alberta, who only has data on his phone to post his garbage after his children work the streets for a night. Meh, either way, the work of a… Read more »

How much did this 'update' cost? Typical Saskatchewan mentality afraid of change.

I agree with the guy who texted in on today's Sports Cage about the logos lack of connection with the team's Roughrider name as seen in many other teams like the Lions and Stamps. An S is so bland! My vision of a new team logo would have on it a cartoon gopher in a Rider #13 jersey, but with a ceremonial style RCMP hat upon its head. Said gopher would be situated atop a saddle strapped tightly to a CFL football with flag pole in his right hand, said flag pole emblazoned with a green coloured winding brick road… Read more »

Basically just got rid of the grey/silver which was an 80's update from the simple green and white. Oy, remember the silver pants? I like this…basic green and white (and a wee bit of black).

I still wish they'd wear the retros way more often instead of the neon green turds…er…thirds.

I was hoping for something more of a change but whatever! I still like the retro logo better. Too bad they have to spend a bunch of money to come up with that. At least our Rider gear with the now "old" logo won't be out of place. We don't have to run out and get new gear just to get the new logo. Easier on my pocketbook for sure!
