PATS 5 WARRIORS 4 SO

REGINA — Sam Steel was the only player to score in the shootout as the Regina Pats outlasted the Moose Jaw Warriors 5-4 before a capacity crowd of 6484 in the Brandt Centre Friday evening.
In the opener to a weekend home-and-home series between the heated WHL rivals, Moose Jaw led 2-1 after the first period on goals by Dryden Hunt and Tristin Langen. Adam Brooks opened the scoring for the Pats with his 36th of the year.
The teams were tied 3-3 after the middle frame as the Warriors built up a 3-1 lead only to see Regina’s Rykr Cole and Cole Sanford tie it before the period was out.
Lane Zablocki put Regina up 4-3 in the third and the Pats were hoping to end it in regulation however Moose Jaw’s Nikita Popugaev tied it with 25.6 seconds remaining.
Each team had two shots in the overtime session which included a Warrior powerplay however nothing was decided.  Jordan Hollett stopped all Warrior shooters in the shootout and Steel put the game away after Brooks and Sanford were stymied by Moose Jaw netminder Zach Sawchenko.
Regina outshot the Tribe 48-28 while going 0/1 on the powerplay and 3/3 on the penalty kill.
The Pats (33-27-3-5) visit Moose Jae Saturday night at 7:00 pm on 620 CKRM.

Best game of the year in my opinion! What an amazing playoff atmosphere. Hope they can get it done in regulation tonight to come within a point! It was nice to see Leschyshyn have a breakout game. He sure stood out and gave fans a glimpse of what we can expect from him the next couple of years!

Who was this Brayden Hunt you kept talking about, Rod? A little rusty!? Odgers has an excuse for his mumbling– being punched in the head 5000 times. But, you're the professional…

Great crowd…Great game. More to come in the next month hopefully.

Thought we outworked Warriors for most of the night…especially the 3rd period but gotta score when the chances are there…MJ did.

Jake L played very well as did a number of Pats…going to be a treat to watch him mature over the next few years. R Cole is a workhorse…never shies away from anything or anyone…gives 100% every shift.

Going to be a barnburner in the Jaw tonight…assume before a sold out Mosaic Place. Go Pats Go!

Great call on the tube Rod. Better then 95% of the crap you see on Sportsnet.

Paddock was not happy with this game in his LP remarks, and he is right of course. With some suspect goaltending and sloppy defensive play we managed to keep MJ in the game outshooting 48-28. If you can't keep the puck out of your net it's not a good thing. The point they needlessly gave them may come back to be the difference of third or wildcard.

Times have changed and there shouldn't be fights in the stands but to hear of this brings me back to my youth with a big smile on my face as an opposing fan in the crushed can and fans going toe to toe. Learned most of my vocabulary growing up never missing these two teams play. Exciting times in Pats land…..wish I lived closer and could make it to the rink. For now I watch for free in low def on my Android TV.
