MEET THE NEW COACH OF THE RAMS
REGINA, Sask. – The University of Regina Rams have announced that Stephen Bryce has been named head coach. Bryce becomes the third head coach in the program’s history at the CIS level.
“Coach Bryce is a strategic thinker, a great leader and communicator, and someone who knows how to get the best out of his student-athletes,” Rams president Dan Johnston said. “All of these factors attracted us to Steve and we believe he will continue to build the football program and is the right person to help us achieve our goals.”
Bryce’s longest coaching stint was at Etiwanda High School in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. where he spent seven seasons as head coach of the Eagles. Taking over a team that had just had a winless season, it didn’t take Bryce long to guide Etiwanda to the top of the Baseline League.
The Eagles had 4-1 league records in 2006, 2007, and 2009 and won California Interscholastic Federation playoff games in both 2009 and 2010. Several of Bryce’s former Etiwanda players were on NFL rosters last season, including Christian Barker (New England), Marvin Jones (Cincinnati), J.J. Unga (Baltimore), and Uani Unga (New York Giants).
“Steve has a history of developing athletes and even more importantly, for promoting academics,” University of Regina interim athletic director Curtis Atkinson said. “He is well respected as a coach who can develop student-athletes in the classroom, on the field, and in the community. He took a systematic and methodical approach to building a championship program at Etiwanda and we believe we’ve found the right person to do the same thing at the U of R.”
More recently, Bryce coached at the Bantam level in Regina Minor Football and with the South Saskatchewan Selects U14 team earlier this year at the Texas School of Football tournament in Arlington, Texas.
Bryce is a former player himself with the Regina Rams, playing for five seasons and helping the program win a national championship in 1987 – his first year with the team. He went on to play for four years at Jamestown College, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1997 with an emphasis on human biology. He continued his education at Cal State San Bernardino, receiving a Bachelor of Science in geology in 2015.

Dont't know a lot about him but he sounds good. Brian Doobie was just a high school coach when he took over the Manitoba program. And he's done wonders for the Bisons
Hahhahahaha at this guy saying that he watched many of the games last year and they were on the brink of greatness. Why would he even say that, he is not tricking anyone. If i was a player in the locker room with the season last year i wouldn't even believe it. Other than that silly comment i thought his press conference went alright and am thinking he can turn it around.
Did I miss something? I listened to his interview on the Sports Cage and I read the article above. I don't remember a statement from Bryce that last years season the Rams were on the verge of greatness. I do remember Bryce commenting on the Rams success when they were playing in the Junior football league. And they were in fact a team that showed greatness decade after decade. Both the Hilltops and the Rams made each other better and dominated the league. I also remember Bryce saying that a majority of those Rams players were blue collar young men.… Read more »
