A 3-2 shootout loss to the visiting Swift Current Broncos denied the Regina Pats the opportunity to clinch a playoff Friday night in the Brandt Centre.
After a scoreless first period, the Pats led 2-1 after 40 minutes thanks to a pair of goals by Adam Brooks and Cole Sanford. The goal by Brooks extended his point streak to 17 games.
However the Broncos’ Jon Martin proved to be the hero on Friday, tying the game at 2-2 just 0:22 in to the third period on the powerplay. After a scoreless overtime session, Martin was the only player to score as the Broncos netted a 3-2 walk-off victory.
Pats snipers Sanford, Brooks and Sam Steel were all stymied in the shootout.
The goaltenders were busy in this one, as Regina’s Tyler Brown made 43 saves in the loss while Swift Current’s Travis Child made 46 stops to earn the win.
The attendance was 4915.
The Pats are home again on Sunday at 4:00 pm when they host the Brandon Wheat Kings on 620 CKRM.
The Pats third and fourth lines are totally ineffective. The size of the Broncos was too much for the Pats to handle. Being too small will hurt them in the playoffs since they can't fight through checks. Combine that with poor discipline and special teams is going to make it tough. This team has lost four of it's last five and picked a poor time to tank.
I would hope a real Pats fan wouldn't only speak up when they lose so you sound like a Saskatoon fan? See you in the playoffs ……. Oh yah right you guys didn't make it.
They are destined for 7th so will likely face Lethbridge or Brandon in playoffs. Have played well against both of these Teams this year so will be an exciting first round series either way.
Was a good game last night…Broncos played well but Childs pulled it out for them even though shots were fairly even.
Didn't think Zablocki deserved 5 minutes for the his hit…I feel that was the difference in the game…gave Broncos the momentum even though only they scored once with the 5 min PP.
Agree that Child's stole that game for them. Hard to believe he hasn't got a fair shake in Swift in 2 years. Definately a WHL starting tender. Needs to get away from the regime of Lamb …… Who's an idiot.
It will likely be Pats Brandon again round one and again a lost series to the mighty Wheaties
Keep braggin pal. How did that work out for you last year against the Rockets? How do you spell SWEEP in Brandon?
Actually , I think Red Deer beats Lethbridge for first in their division and sweeps Pats round one.
