RIDERS SIGN DL COREY IRVIN

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced international free agent defensive lineman Corvey Irvin has signed with the team. As per club policy, details of the contract were not released.

Irvin (6’2 – 295) will join the Riders for his second CFL season after spending 2015 with the Montreal Alouettes. Last year, the 30-year-old started all 13 regular season games played picking up 12 defensive tackles, three quarterback sacks, and one tackle for loss.

Prior to the CFL, Irvin spent parts of five seasons in the NFL after originally being selected by the Carolina Panthers in the 3rd round (29th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft. He went on to play 24 games spending time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions.

and how did Chick do the last 2 years – oh yes he was second in the league for total sacks over 2 years

Ya but don't forget all the pundits saying how a guy at 30 is on the declining side of his career. To quote someone off CKRM "The Bombers will start out good but by Labour Day will have injuries and all that comes with 30 yrs of age." But are they gonna say anything about that when the Riders sign a 30 yr old. NOPE

Chick had a ton of tackles in the first half of 2014, very few after DD was hurt, and very few last year. Not only did Chick provide few sacks he didn't get much pressure on the QB. He never lead our defence to any wins in 2014 or 2015. He wanted Ted Laurent money while not providing much. He could have signed here for the same money he did in Hamilton but like Dressler, wouldn't negotiate a new deal. At least DD cared enough about the team concept to work with the team. Hey Troll….Chick was 33 approaching 34 with a serious medical condition…Dressler was 30 and often hurt.

The difference is this guy is making $90,000 in Sask and Chick is making $175,000 in Hamilton. Its all about the salary cap

Dressler not able to play defensive tackle so why bring him up? Irvin is brought in to compete with T. George and keep pressure on his to be effective. Rest assured that there will be competition for positions at training camp as always.
