GIBSON BOLTS RAMS FOR ESKIMOS

REGINA, Sask. – The University of Regina Rams announced Sunday afternoon that Mike Gibson has resigned as head coach, effective January 31.

Gibson has accepted a position as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator for the Edmonton Eskimos.

“In his short time with the organization, Coach Gibson had a positive impact on our program in the areas of player recruitment, academic excellence, and strengthening the partnership with the University,” Rams president Dan Johnston said. “We thank Mike for his hard work and wish him and his family the best in the future.”

Gibson returns to the Canadian Football League after one season as the head coach of the Rams. Edmonton will be his sixth CFL stop, as he’s also held positions with Winnipeg, Saskatchewan, Hamilton, Calgary, and Ottawa.

“I’m incredibly disappointed to see Mike go, but this is a wonderful opportunity for him and his family,” said Curtis Atkinson, acting athletics director for the U of R. “I have great respect for the job he’s done here in a short period of time and believe he had a profound impact on our student-athletes and the institution. Mike has an outstanding work ethic, passion for the game, and he does things the right way. He’ll be missed.”

national search will begin immediately for Gibson’s replacement.

The Rams will be the Rams until they hire a CIS Head Coach the ilk of Blake Nill. Someone who has built and won before and someone who has extensive connection at the CIS level. It goes without saying that guys like Nill win championships and another again in one year after he left Calgary. Until they they can persuade someone like that to come here, it will be the same thing year after year at the U of R.

No loserville there's no tampering unlike the lowly sliders talking to traitor Jones the week of the Grey Cup ,the whiners and their fans have absolutely zero class in doing that, the news always has to involve the low life sliders and their classless fans. When really nobody outside of the province cares shit about the worst team in the CFL ,but thanks to the sliders the Eskimos are stronger with their new coaching staff.Thank -you loserville.from all Grey Cup Champion Eskies fans.

Anyone who has ever been to a game at Commonwealth knows what a bunch of low life, unclassy, worthless white trash pieces of human garbage Moes fans are.
Go back to waiting for your next EI cheque while you watch the repo men take your highly financed possessions away. I hope your daughters and sons make enough working on the street tonight to feed you all tomorrow.

We get a GC winning HC, you get a guy who can't win a single game in CIS. Only idiot hypocrites would celebrate this.

Can't help but think the U of R has shot themselves in the foot after tearing apart the old Coaching Staff. Would be interesting to see someone like Luc Mullinder or Mark Muller take over but are they really qualified to do so? I was surprised when Gibson was chosen.

Good time for the Rams to do a thorough search and bring in a strong leader & build the program from the ground up to be able to recruit and compete on a yearly basis.

You have to wonder if the U of R was consulted very early in the process and were very happy to rid themselves of a mistake they made, and that maybe all the compensation that is needed.

As a Huskies football fan, I would gladly send you Head Coach Brian Towriss, DC Ed Carleton and Athletic Director Basil Houghton as a bonus. The Huskies have not won a playoff game in eight years. These three individuals are not committed to winning, and have a right of entitlement, as they know the U of S will never fire them.Do you think that Huskies football fans who want more for these young men, could borrow Craig Reynolds for about 15 minutes ? This is about how long it would take to fire these washed up coaches and directors. I will… Read more »

Nice way to bail on your kids in the middle of recruiting Gibson. You have embarassed the Rams and those who hired you should be accountable. Isn't that right Mr. Johnston?
